Will Lakewood Mosdos’ 9th grade girls start school tomorrow?

That’s the question around Lakewood today.

TLS spoke with the Askonim working on the issue, and as of 7 PM this evening, the placements were still not complete.

As first reported on Friday afternoon, upon the directive of the Mashgiach and Roshei Yeshiva, the schools’ 9th grades are not to open until each girl has a school.

Sorry, this so called parnassah crisis is man-made, and self-imposed. What do you think is going to happen when the yeshivos teach that secular education is tarfus, boys (and girls) are brainwashed into thinking that it’s proper for the guy to sit and learn, and his wife (or rich parents / in-laws if he’s lucky enough) will support him for several years (or forever), instead of going into a profession with a fighting chance of being able to earn a living and support a family. I don’t care if you become a plumber or an electrician, those are great professions. But do something!

When will the (moderated) wake up and realize that this practice of guys getting married young, then learning for a bunch of years, and then finally after being married with a few kids, he realizes that he needs to figure out a way to earn a living to pay for it all, is just not working.

This is not sustainable. When will people finally realize this? The Torah way is NOT to sit and learn all day long and rely on everyone else to support you. While this is appropriate for the few that are to become the next generation of leaders of Klal Yisrael, this is NOT appropriate to be common practice.

If you read the kesubah you signed before getting married, it says you’re supposed to support your wife. Your wife, or her parents, or your parents, are not supposed to support you.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s almost impossible to make ends meet even when both parents are working and earning high salaries. But atleast you did your part and you’re doing what you can reasonably do. I know I’ll get lots of nasty comments for this, but this whole practice of not doing your hishtadlus with regard to parnassah is misguided at best.

Since college is traif, maybe BMG should open their own program to train these guys i some profession. It could be a similar model to Touro or YU where they combine limud HaTorah with secular education, but it’s done in a “kosher” environment. I truly think we’d see only positive results from this. Has this ever been discussed before? Am I the first one to suggest such a thing?

The tuition crisis us going to get much worse soon .There are,so many businesses in town that are paying women well, so you can’t get good teachers anymore without paying more . That means higher and higher girls school tuitions .

There are 9 girls high school and 30 boys high schools it’s no wonder we have trouble finding schools for our girls. There’s a major shortage!!

I have an eitzah the roshai hayisheva should make a rule. If you have or open a misivta you have to open a girls high school. We can solve the school shortage problem and the shiduch crisis all at once.

Just a question: do all the ppl that pay outrageous prices in frum stores for all their clothing have anything left over to pay tuition? Or does tuition get paid before buying those clothes?

Is there also a campaign for every Yeshiva to have a boy?
As they say about Lakewood that the Roshei Yeshiva don’t let girls high school open until every gir has a school and every Mesivta open until every Mesivta has a boy.
