The Lakewood Township received a shutoff notice from JCP&L due to non-payment. Payment however was stopped to the electric provider after they failed to correct the many outages around town.
Additionally, JCP&L was reportedly invited to attend the public Utilities Advisory Committee meetings, but did not show up.
In a recent Township Committee meeting, it was announced that the Township did not back off from their lawsuit against the electric company. The Mayor is expected to meet with Township Attorney Jan Wouters in regards to it.
The Utility Advisory Committee board has announced at the last meeting that they plan on inviting the Board of Public Utilities to their future meetings. Lakewood Shopper/TLS.
The town hasn’t paved many of the streets and it costs us more money to repair our cars, can we stop paying taxes?
when are going to thgough out American Weter
AND THE LORD SAID “LET THERE BE LIGHT” power co. said pay first, power later…..makes cents to me……!!!
I would like to see what happens when you hold back your property taxes from the township.
Were is all that money? Fix the roads at least!
If they shut the lights in lakewood will they shut themselves down too?
how do i go about asking for an additional st light on our dark block
In the interest of public safety, I doubt they are legally allowed to shut power off to the township.. no traffic lights, no street lights? Just like they cannot shut the power off to a home that has someone on medical equipment, etc.
You can’t stop payments to JCPL. This is a very bad idea. This will cost us tax payers in the end. you need to pay the bill and then file a action in court. NON PAYMENT WILL ONLY COST TAX PAYERS IN THE END. THIS CLEAR CUT CASE LAW AND JCPL KNOWS WELL
Regarding the paving of the roads it takes time and lots of money and just because the township doesn’t want to pay for electric doesn’t give them the right to use that money for something else the township are not stupid ppl they want to hold onto that money until jcp&l fix the problems so when they do fix the problems they can pay them right a way and not say we used that money to fix roads which ppl don’t know how to slow down. If u slow down on pot hole streets ur car won’t break down…..think abt it what’s more important ur electricity in ur house or ur car……or for some ppl it makes no difference let’s just complain abt people who try to help us and help everyone person in lakewood …….. Be a little thankful
I wonder ….. No lights ….. More accidents…. Less electricity poles…. How much it would cost them to fix that? Hmmmm…….
THEY have back up generators on their system..only a few buildings in town have the same thing..Its all about the money
i asked for more lights on ridge for over 2 years
no results!!!!
people calm down. they are not going to shut off the power. just like the government threatens to “shut down” and then right before the last minute of all of these idle threats, a resolution is made. its all scare tactics/fear mongering. relax.
JCPL will not back down because if they do every other town that JCPL services will try the same thing.
The Court will not backup the township because the dispute is not over the amount due but over the services that the township says were not provided. In other words the court will say you used the electric then you must pay for it
HELLO TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE. If this town goes dark you are going to have a lot of angry residents that are going to put the blame directly on you. PAY THE BILL and work out the dispute.
I believe that the shutoff notice was restricted to streetlights.
Lakewood Township has filed a legal action and withheld payment for streetlights because of the large number of streetlights that are out. It is clear that it is the responsibility of JCP&L to keep streetlights in working order, and they charge the Township weather the lights are working or not working.
Lakewood is a walking community where streetlights are a safety issue, and the absence of light makes it dangerous to walk at night.
JCP&L has been systematically shutting off the streetlights, because they have failed to keep them in good repair. If they shut off the remaining streetlights, will anyone notice?
Mayor Miller is right in forcing the point to JCP&L. FIX THE STREETLIGHTS!
JCP&L is a regulated utility that is being investigated for making profits of about 12%, far above the standard regulated rate of profit. It is time for JCP&L to add adequate maintenance facilities to put the streetlights in repair.
i have not seen them pave one road since i live in lakewood the last 7 years all the do is fill SOME potholes…. they never repave roads in lakewood even the busy ones like clifton ave. is full of bumps how come the olim does not put up a fuss and ask were are tax dollars are going too i mean the roads goota be fix how come the olim is not fed up driving on bumpy roads all day of course it cost money but let them use the tax money for the roads just drive down 6 street between clifton and lexington and you see
Heathwood was paved last week. North Lake drive was paved in two section May and June this year. Hearthstone BB court and parking lot was paved yesterday. We do what we can when we are givin the funds to do so. With all the construction everytime we pave a road, builders are allowed to open it for utlilities. They never repair it properly and when we complain we are told not to worry about it.
why don’t we taxpayers refuse to pay our real estate taxes for lack of performance by the Township. Our school system is in chaos. Our roads need repair. Our housing is deteriorating. Our zoning laws are being violated or nullified. Should we stop paying for violation of contract? What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If the Township feels it is valid against JCP&l, it should be valid by taxpayers.
#19 I was posting the same thought but it was removed. We should follow our towns action if there is no resolution of our problems.
