A wild overturn accident occurred on Clifton Avenue in Lakewood this afternoon, and it was all caught on surveillance video – obtained exclusively by TLS.
The accident happened around around 4:25 PM.
No serious injuries are being reported.
Police are investigating the accident.
UPDATE: THE SUSPECT WAS WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH A BANK ROBBERY. SEE UPDATE HERE.

Unbelievable!
Luckily: No pedestrians were walking there
it’s not necessarily the truck’s fault, because the van is suppesed to be in the right lane.
I see what you’re saying, but the truck made an Illegal turn.
Nothing new in Lakewood
There is only one lane there!!! Total stupidity! That’s why our car insurance going through the roof!!!
I think it popped out of the roof
There is only one turning lane there!!! Red car tried squeezing…
Did you see the video? The red car was not in the turning lane
Nothing new
Trailblazer turned from the non turning lane so 100% at fault.
If a driver turns left and ends up in a lane other than the leftmost available lane (when the law requires the leftmost), that driver could be cited for an improper left turn under N.J.S.A. 39:4-123.
In the event of a crash, that failure could be used as evidence of negligence or fault. Indeed, courts have found violation of 39:4-123 to support a finding of negligence.
“when the law requires the leftmost”
and here the law does NOT require it as there is only ONE LANE which means you get to choose whichever one you want
How does TLS get surveillance video so quickly, less than 20 minutes after crash?
Careless is an understatement
The SUV was NOT in the left turning lane (watch the video well) on Rt 88. He tried cutting off the van.
I hope POLICE see this part of the video.
It’s the vans fault
No it isn’t.
Trucks fault for aggressive and reckless driving 100%.
I’m so confused, which truck??? One vehicle is a Chevy Trailblazer which is an suv and the other vehicle is a Toyota sienna?? None of them were trucks???
The minivan should have turned into the right lane. I see people doing these wider and illegal turns all the time. But the red suv was going way too fast for a turn. This could’ve been so tragic, thankfully no pedestrian were on the street!
There’s only one turning lane, so as such, you can turn into whatever lane you choose to.
On a left turn from 1 lane onto a road with 2 lanes, one may turn into either lane.
(On a right turn, you’re only allowed to turn into the closest lane to the right.)
To revise my answer above:
In another large and highly populated state, where I learned to drive, turning from one lane into any lane on a left turn is 100% permitted.
In NJ and NY, the law requires turning into the left lane.
Just wanted to be accurate and not mislead anyone who’s actually reading and decides to use Lakewood Scoop comments as their driver’s manual.
Doesn’t matter, Trailblazer turned from non turning lane.
Thank You Hashem No pedestrians easily could have killed people
100% thank You Hashem.
I was hit (as a pedestrian) on the very same intersection (Main St and Clifton) on Dec 16. Three fractured ribs…
