Widespread Power Outage in Lakewood; Nearly 9,500 Customers Without Power [UPDATED]

UPDATE: As of 8:45pm, just over 2,000 customers remain without power, with most power expected to be restored by 11pm.

Earlier this evening, the New Jersey Department of Transportation allowed Lakewood Police and Chaveirim to connect generators to the traffic lights that were out of power along New Hampshire Avenue, freeing up crucial personnel to direct traffic at other key intersections around town.

Original story below:

There’s currently a widespread power outage across several areas of Lakewood.

According to JCP&L, nearly 9,500 customers are without power, more than a quarter of their customers in Lakewood.

Multiple traffic lights out as well.

Unknown cause at this time.

UPDATE: As of 4:45 PM, over 5,000 remain without power.

  1. If you need to heat up food, you can put a bunch of tea lights in the bottom of the oven on a cookie sheet, and it will cook very nicely

  2. I got a great idea!! Let’s have 200,000 Jewish people move into an area that was never designed to house more than 20,000 people! Without any proper planning for urban development or infrastructure, we will somehow make it work despite:

    – not enough roads or lanes to accommodate all the traffic
    – not enough public safety (fire & police department reps)
    – not enough utilities ( water, gas, electricity) to service this magnitude of people.

Just keep building cheap housing that goes up overnight, and hope for the best. K’lal Yisroel never had it this good, after all!
