Free checking may be going the way of the toasters banks once gave to customers for opening a new account. Two big banks, Chase and Wells Fargo, will begin phasing out traditional free checking in New Jersey next month. Consumers can avoid monthly maintenance fees, however, if they meet minimum balance requirements for the account or set up direct deposit. Read more in Star Ledger.

Thank the government for helping us all out. Oh and soon they are going to charge us for debit cards because of the government regulations. You can thank our senators for it.
Thank you Obama and Democrats for passing the “financial overhaul” which supposedly makes it tougher on banks through more regulation, so now they will begin to pass all those higher fees onto us the little guy. There’s your liberal democrat party hard at work, not realizing that every thing they do which supposedly “helps” ends up hurting us even more.
aaawwww poor Chase bank, they have no money. Dont buy into the banks lies. Perhaps if they did’nt open a bank every 3 feet they could spare the change to offer no fee checking. after all they make money on every penny in those checking accounts.
just pay on line ,no need for checks
to #4 not talking about checks were talking about a monthly charge just for having a account
