Most New Jersey voters surveyed want Gov.-elect Chris Christie to wield an ax and not a tax to help budget the state’s budget. A Quinnipiac University poll released today shows 75 percent of voters surveyed support a wage freeze for public employees. Even Democrats and union households back that strategy. Sixty-one percent also support layoffs compared with 33 percent opposed. Sixty-eight percent said Christie should cut programs and services and 23 percent support higher taxes. The poll also showed a record number of New Jersey voters dissatisfied with the way things are going. Even President Obama’s approval rating is at a low, 51 to 42 percent.

The poll of 1,615 New Jersey voters between Nov. 17-22 has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points. AP
