Submitted: As we find ourselves in the ימי ספירה & are not getting haircuts, perhaps it is time to step back & ask ourselves if perhaps we have allowed entry into our מחנה haircuts & hairstyles that are rather questionable & perhaps even worse are certainly outside of the permitted parameters of the halachos of בל תקיף.
We read פרשת קדושים this shabbos which tells ‘קְדשִׁ֣ים תִּֽהְי֑וּ כִּ֣י קָד֔וֹשׁ אֲנִ֖י ה אֱלֹֽקיכֶֽם which the נתיבות שלום explains to mean that we are empowered by the צלם אלוקים within us to withstand all ניסיונות.
פרשת קדושים also contains the very מצות לא תעשה of בל תקיף
& as such I think it would be an opportune time to replay this shiur given some time ago going through the topic.
I think it should be imperative for every barber in our community to see to it to be on the “cutting edge” of the knowledge of these הלכות.
Every barber should be asked by their clients whether he has learnt & mastered these הלכות & then & only then should one put himself in his professional hands.
Here is a link to the shiur. I believe you will be doing it the community a great service by posting this.
About the video: Madison Torah Projects presents Reb Avi Wiesenfeld, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Beis Dovid Yerushalayim and author of Kashrus in the Kitchen, the Pocket Halacha series and others, in a fascinating shiur on the Halachos of Haircuts and Peyos Harosh given in Camp Agudah in 2018.
I think Barber shops should have a hechsher. Why is this any different than food, shaimos seraifas challah and hagolas keilim?
It exists! While currently still under construction, the KosherCuts Certification, Inc is currently working to provide a Kabbalah for barbers on the baseline Halachot!
Beautiful Shiur. Thank you for posting.
Question! I saw a chassidish man, with long peyos get a haircut before pesach, triple 0 with totally wrong guidelines!! How can you make this more public, even for those who don’t see TLS??
Thanks for posting! This Shiur is extremely important especially in light of today’s styles. Apparently it’s a big Taavah to grade the hair thin. Never ever go under a #2 guard. It’s the difference between thouzands of Aveiros or thouzands of Mitzvos.
I grew up with the assumption that as long as it`s “K`dai Achiza” it`s not too short, and u can go a bit shorter than a #2. Does anyone know if there is a mekor for that?
