Music ricocheted off the walls of the nearby houses in Deal, NJ last Wednesday night, as Jewish superstar Yaakov Shwekey took to the stage.

But this was far different than any regular concert.

This was an event celebrating the love of Mitzvos and the beauty of Torah.

The scene could have brought tears to anyone’s eyes, as teens at risk banded together like brothers and danced the night away, showing support for one another, but above all showing support and love for Torah and mitzvos. This was one of the many Mitzva Gang events that are still yet to come.

Started by Menachem Dubin, a bochur who just graduated from Mesivta of Eatontown, Mitzva Gang is making its footprint by spreading light, positivity and Torah to at-risk teens across the country. The Program incentivizes teens to do Mitzvos such as keeping shabbos or Yomtov. Every week there is a raffle after shabbos where four/five kids win different prizes.

But they are winning much more than prizes here. They are winning battles. They are conquering difficulties with passion knowing that they are supported by fellow mitzva gang members and the perpetual love that comes along with it.

Singer Yaakov Shwekey has been a strong supporter and advocate for Mitzva Gang since its inception a few months ago, and has connected with alot of the teens on a personal level through his music, schmoozing and display of unconditional love.

These teens are our future. Let’s show them love and support whenever and however we can.
