VIDEO: Why It’s Taking The Plow ‘Forever’ To Get To You

dpw_truck_stuck_tlsVIDEO: If you, like thousands in town are wondering why your street has not yet been plowed, watch this video. The video, taken moments ago, shows one of the township’s plow trucks attempting to enter a development, but to no avail. Many trucks are unable to maneuver themselves in the massive snow piles, and are forced to turn around.

Mayor Langert, himself sitting on a plow truck, tells TLS, some devlopments require much larger trucks, and are doing whatever possible to dig Lakewood out of this paralyzing storm.

if you would have plowed overnight and through the day and not just wake up at 4 pm maybe there would not be as much snow piled in the middle of the street.
Mayor langert said he does not want to hear complaints until the cleanup is done. I guess he won’t be hearing complaints for a very long time.

Privatize the DPW. The free market will find a way to get things done. If they don’t, the competitor will.
Im sick of government waste and inconpitence.

One would think that if the developments were pre-plowed the entire night, there would be no problems like this now. Of course when this wasn’t done, and there is a fresh snowpile on all these streets (after melting during the course of the day and subsequently becoming ice), THEN it is a problem.

This is normal

i think that this is pathetic!!!!!!!
wow!! so we have trucks that can’t move in the snow. aren’t these trucks supposed to have special tires?
it snowed last year, and the year before. LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES.
also, why do they plow streets only half way. either plow them or dont!!!
WHEN YOU DO SOMETHING, EITHER DO IT RIGHT OR DON’T DO IT!!!!!
for half plowed streets i could have asked my 9 and 6 year old kids to do it!!

I’m sorry but if a garbage truck can get through a street to pick up garbage, a plow truck can too. This is inexcusable! What was that video for exactly? To show their incompitence?

Perplexed

Of course it’s undestandable that they’re getting stuck. We’re talking about mounds of 2-3 feet of snow.

The question I have(but who knows maybe I’m wrong….??); why was it allowed to accumulate to these amounts? Why were these roads not plowed CONTINUOUSLY through last night so they wouldn’t have to deal with such large mounds of snow??

sammmy

idiots in that development!!! dont they know you have to shovel the snow so the plow can get in to your development?!?!?!
but seriously if they would have been out plowing while it was snowing it would be much easier now. maybe next time they wont say there is no reason to shovel while its still snowing.

No exuse! Why don’t they buy garbage trucks that could have a plow on it etc.? We pay more than enough tax, dpw gets more than enough money but spends on stupid thinks and stupid ways, instead of more important thinks or spend it smarter

Sunny

Come on!! we arent in a third world country, we pay crazy taxes, you are telling me thaey cant figure out how to get trucks that move and maneuver in the snow! Its just not fair tio insult our intelligence and make it like this is the first snow fall since yimei berashis!! Figure it out, you have the money and where abouts and Get the job done!!

yeah- privatization is a great idea. they did it in brick where I live and I haven’t seen a plow on my side of town all day- nevermind having our committee post updates on what developments are about to be plowed. you guys sure have a lot to complain about, sheesh.

It looks like a bunch of Chachomim from Chelm running this town.
Don’t worry, they will sock it to us with a big tax increase to help the DPW buy “better” equipment etc.
What a joke (on us).

To the guy from Brick:

The question is; is this what you contend with EVERY year, EVERY storm?? Every storm there’s another story. True we have dedicated commiteemen, that doesn’t say much about the DPW.

To#14

If they had only spent 24 mil on equipment instead of on a facility, maybe things would look better. Just maybe but probably not, knowing this town.

You know what in Philly and NY they got Machines to Plow now we all need tractor to do the Job to Plow so I guess I spend another day at Home and loose money… It was a very tired day.. Now everyone will have to shovel the snow on our own…If the Mayor did call it a delcared state of emerency where are the National Guards?? They supposed be here to help us if we help them with our taxes????

question for everyone

Where are the plow trucks? Please let us know if they are in your neighborhood.
All the developments that were privately plowed had no problem and are all clean. Pine River was still not plowed.

Anonymous

Truth of the matter is: if we all just went out with a shovel in hand and did it all day long, all our developments would have been clean by now.
Better yet, we should have had all the township workers, who live on the payroll that comes from our taxes (and who are most likely off from work today with pay), do this for us.
Pathetic.

Tax payer

1) They should pass an ordinance that any car parked on the street when the road before the street is plowed should be fined $500, Iwould bet the streets would be cleared for the plows to get through 2) All of the plowing problems started when all of these developments with narrow streets and in adequet parking started poping up all over town, I think that. ALL developments. That fit this description should not be plowed by the DPW, they should be forced to hire private plows. Why should the whole town suffer because of the shortsightedness of the developers and buyers of these developments?

We are the fools that we put up with such stories. I live on Ashley avenue and the idea that the township could not come down this street Even once to plow is obscene.

I live in Brick

I live in Brick and you should see my street.I dont even know how im going to work tomorrow.I havent seeing a truck all day today.By the way we went private for snow removal,so go ahead and privatize that too and lets see to who you are going to complaint then.Brick DPW used to do a better job than the private contractors and they were nice ppl compare to the ones the town hire now.Privatize and pay the consequenses later…..

It’s not easy driving a snow plow, so i am not complaining just staying home and waiting for warmer weather to melt this stuff.

Anonymous

This issue is lack of manpower. Trained workers to drive the plows don’t just magically materialize when snow starts to fall. Of course, you could hire more workers, but then they’d be doing make work at best when they weren’t needed and our taxes would be higher than they are already.

Christine Abrams

I have friends in Brick and Barnegate who have not had their streets plowed yet either. It’s not just Lakewood. Even if they did get to your street, would the main roads be plowed? My husband tried to go to work around 12 noon so he could dig it out for opening tomorrow, and didn’t make it past Rt. 70.

How do we fire the head of Public Works and the Town Manager? Can we vote them out somehow? Maybe we have to vote out the people who hire these incompetent bureaucrats.

developments should not be done before people on blocks. If township trucks can’t get in, let the developments pay out of their own pockets for better equipment, not waste resources by getting every vehicle stuck somewhere while the rest of the town waits.

master plan

It’s interesting, perhaps the next time a new development is being build some consideration will be taken into account for this. It seems as though many homes go up so quickly. The developments are not well planned to account for traffic etc. The neighborhood my children grew up in required the children to walk to the corner for a bus stop because the busses could not get down the streets regulary. Now, busses drop off right at the door. Talk about service! Could you imagine if your kids had to walk to a bus stop up the street? Boy would the board of ed be getting phone calls!
