The intersection of 2nd Street and Monmouth Avenue is now a 4-way. Stop signs were installed today.
The intersection, which had stop signs between west-east, was especially dangerous for drivers driving eastbound on Second Street, due to the curve on Monmouth Avenue southbound.
Watch the video showing some drivers just not noticing the new flashing stop signs.
Rules for 4-way:
The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right of way to a vehicle which has entered the intersection. When two vehicles enter an intersection at the same time, the driver of the vehicle on the left shall yield the right of way to the driver of the vehicle on the right.

coming from rt 88 the curb is very far from the yellow line were people are driving street to realize theirs a stop sign, specially since its new. may be at night it will stick out better cause if the flashing lite.
this should be good, many drivers just don’t know how to deal with a 4 way stop!
By all the other new stop signs they put a cone with another stops sign in the middle of the street
Why cant they do that here for the first few weeks so everybody learns much quicker and safer
Put an island 4 way stop sign
Its a stop sign, they have the same meaning all over the world.
Just need to stop and wait your turn.
Unreal
WHY AREN’T THERE STOP SIGNS IN MIDDLE OF THE STREET FOR THE FIRST MONTH OR SO LIKE THEY DID BY OTHER INTERSECTIONS!!!
I’m sorry, I’m driving through that intersection numerous times a day. I noticed the 4 way stop sign immediately. This video is ridiculous. Shameful!!
Just do the 25mph speed limit. It will be ok. You’ll get there just fine.
When will this town get more traffic lights?
They should make an island in the middle. Will make traffic safer and less complex. And they should not make the intersection a 4 way until the island is up! I passed by today and almost missed it cuz the cones weren’t up in middle of the street. Very very dangerous and not a good idea!!
I agree with commenters 1,3 and 6.t the stop sign is very far from Monmouth Avenue closer to 88 and additional stop signs should be put it in the center of the roadway to make it more noticeable on this wide street
They should all be ticketed!
if u look at the video all the drivers went thru when no one else was waiting. wrong but typical for Lakewood
In response to some comments asking for a cone in middle of the road- I passed yesterday AND stopped- and there was a cone in the middle of the road- smashed on the ground with a stop sign that had been there too. Apparently all those cars flying through don’t notice anything, not cones in middle, not flashing stop signs…. why would they notice a human being crossing?
You are complaining the intersection is too wide, then why not build some housing on the sides to narrow the roadway to a normal size, then we can block the road with parked cars and trash cans.
