It wasn’t at the Carlebach Shul. It was the Carlebach minyan relocated to The West Side Institutional Synagogue because the Carlbach shul wasn’t gona have enough room to hold so many people.
Those who don’t appreciate this type of thing – That’s why you weren’t there and these people were. To them, this is how they get inspiration. I would agree with you that’s it’s probably not the way Chazal had in mind, but many of the chevra there probably would not have gone at all to any Slichos!
And besides, the way it worked was that everyone said each Slicha on there own like any other minyan, and the last line of each Slicha that the Chazan would say out loud, that’s what Yehuda (and everyone togeather…) sang. It was truly a poweful matzav to have a few hundred people all singing and dancing togeather!
different strokes for different folks
There isn’t anywhere near 800 people in the video.
800 included the ladies section and there were prob more than thru out the night. It went on for 2 1/2 hours!
I can see it now… Moshiach is here, the Bais HaMikdash is rebuilt, the Leviem are playing their instruments and singing Shiros V’sishbachos… and then it happens… from the back of the Beis Hamikdash a group of Kanaim all in black (except for the shirt of course) start to protest saying “no, this is not the way to Daven to HaShem. Get rid of those interments, stop the singing, my grandfather didn’t Daven this way in Pinsk”! I come home to my apartment in Yerushalayim bewildered and I turn on my computer, get on to The Yerushalayim Scoop (TYS), and there is a clip from the Tefilah in the Bais Hamikdash being led by the Leviem, I scan down to the comments a record number 256 comments, mostly bemoaning the Yeridah of the Dor. But one comment sticks out “did you see the way they Daven? Oh how I yearn for the days of Galus again when we would just cry, chant and Shuckle, walk back and forth, everyone screaming a different part of Davening at the same time… maybe next year in Galus”.
to #15 hudi happens to be a levi!!
