A reported attempted robbery lead to a gunpoint traffic stop in Lakewood this afternoon, officials say.
Shortly before 4 PM, a woman reported to police a gun was pointed at her in an attempted robbery, sources say.
Police received the whereabouts of the vehicle, and tracked it down in the area of MLK Drive moments later.
Police surrounded the vehicle, and ordered the occupants out of the car at gunpoint.
At least one was seen taken into custody.
“I can confirm that we are currently investigating a report of a person brandishing a gun at another,” Detective Sergeant LeRoy Marshall told TLS. “The investigation is ongoing.”
UPDATE 9:35 PM: Police released the following information to TLS:
On September 26th at approximately 4:00pm, the Lakewood Police Department received a call from a motorist reporting that an individual had brandished a handgun at the caller from another vehicle. The motorist proceeded to follow the suspect vehicle while providing location updates to our dispatchers. Police responded to the area provided by the caller and ultimately stopped the suspect vehicle on Lois Lane.
The occupants of the suspect vehicle were removed from the car at gunpoint. The vehicle and its occupants were searched but no firearm was located.
As a result of our investigation, the caller identified as Gianna Bozza (19 years old, residing in Jackson, NJ) was charged with Causing a False Public Alarm. Larry A. Crippen (19 years old residing in Jackson) was also arrested on an outstanding warrant and ultimately posted bail at Headquarters. The investigation was conducted by Officer Nadine Clarke and Sgt Robert Humeny.
