VIDEO: Public Works Director Al Burdge: If It’s Not Broken, You Don’t Change It

al burdge dpw directorVIDEO: Just days after taking position as new Public Works Director, TLS met with Al Burdge to talk about his intended goals and things he would like to achieve, implement or revise, as the new director. “If it’s not broken, you dont change it!” he says. “John Franklin left a great operation going, and aside for a few minor changes here and there, I don’t see why anything should be changed” he says.

He added, “He (John Franklin) always treated the residents of Lakewood fair, and I hope to continue the same thing”. “He treated them as customers, and customers are always right. “Once in a while you have to say no” he says, but most of the time the customer is right”.

Former Director John Franklin, retired July 1st, 2010, as posted here.

  1. There’s nothing wrong w/ the system ? Why does the TWSP have to give free garbage pick-up for downtown businesses ? Why is the plowing such a disaster ? Can we sell the. $24 million garbage dump ? Its so sad. & we pay for this guy’s salary.

  2. This guy thinks all is Ok. People r taxed to WaZoo. Half the oilam had their taxes raised & this guy says all is OK. Did anyone tell them “slash the budget “? Do they realize there’s no $$ ?? Its ok to cut service, ppl will understand. This is so sad. The oilam is crying.

  3. I am very satisfied with the level of service from Lakewood DPW so I’m glad to hear no charges will be made. THANK YOU LAKEWOOD DPW!

  4. Why is it that I had to give money as a deposit to the township to get an extra blue recycling can, and now that they changed the system, I don’t get my deposit back and I also don’t get an extra recycling can.
Overcrowding, insufficient roadways, and taxes that make us all suffer.

If the township really wants to make thing work, they should be transparent.
Why does the public school system cost so much more per student than private?
Why do we only have garbage pickup once a week?
Why, if there are so many more houses than there use to be, have our taxes gone up exponentially?
Why does the township not get rid of the water company? NJ water is ripping its all off, and the township is doing nothing about it !
Seniors have absolutely paid into the system, but that does not mean they have MORE rights than we do!
Why are the roads in this town in such horrible condition?
Why are the gangs still here ?

These are just some of the things you should think about.

  5. I agree with “off new central” The service here is wonderful. I too am glad there will be no changes. And I have never had a problem speaking with any DPW worker. Maybe the disgruntled ones are the ones that expect rules be bent for them and have no respect for our public workers. Maybe those that break the traffic laws should have to do community service in the public works department in lieu of fines and see how the department works and what these people have to deal with all day

  6. hey no.7 do you feel better, what a rant from left field. DPW has nothing to do with most of your rant. read the other posts, others want to lay off police and DPW to save money and you want more services? go talk to the people that want to cut taxes.

  7. The DPW does a great job. If you cut the money and the services they provide people will NOT understand they will just complain more than already do.
