VIDEO: President Obama Calls on FCC for Net Neutrality

obamaVIDEO: By The White House: More than any other invention of our time, the Internet has unlocked possibilities we could just barely imagine a generation ago. And here’s a big reason we’ve seen such incredible growth and innovation: Most Internet providers have treated Internet traffic equally. That’s a principle known as “net neutrality” — and it says that an entrepreneur’s fledgling company should have the same chance to succeed as established corporations, and that access to a high school student’s blog shouldn’t be unfairly slowed down to make way for advertisers with more money.

That’s what President Obama believes, and what he means when he says there should be no gatekeepers between you and your favorite online sites and services.

And as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) considers new rules for how to safeguard competition and user choice, we cannot take that principle of net neutrality for granted. Ensuring a free and open Internet is the only way we can preserve the Internet’s power to connect our world. That’s why the President has laid out a plan to do it, and is asking the FCC to implement it.

  1. AT&T definitely don’t play by Rules
I do have unlimited AT&T and then I’ll be slowed down to nonfunctioning
AT&T like almost have no service
Wonder if other people had the same problem ?

  2. I don’t think people realize what this means. This is actually a very big issue. Do you use Google? What happens if Verizon decides to slow it down. How about if they decide they want TLS to pay them to have the site work at a decent speed. Do you have hosted PBX service? Watch that stop working. There are documented cases in the US where carriers would mess up hosted phone systems so the customers would drop their providers and come back to them.

  3. I think I agree with what he’s trying to do here…if I understand it correctly the goal it’s too make sure the entire internet didn’t become so pay to play that small businesses are crowded out.

  4. to number one stop being so cheap that all you worried about his taxes there are far more things going on in this country that you should be worried about then taxes
