In a moving reflection that spans nearly seven decades, Posek Hador Hagaon Rav Moshe Sternbuch Shlita shared a message in the Chevron Yeshiva he received from the revered Belzer Rebbe, Rav Aharon of Belz zt”l.
Recalling the moment, he shared:
“While I was learning in Yeshivas Chevron, I went to visit the Rebbe. When he heard where I was studying, he gave me a personal mission—to deliver a message to the yeshiva students. That message remains as relevant today as it was then.”
The Rebbe’s directive was clear and deeply symbolic: When learning a Masechta of Gemara, study it from beginning to end. Don’t skip even a single page.
The Rebbe likened each completed Masechta to a house built in Olam Haba—the World to Come. “But if a Masechta is left unfinished,” the Rebbe warned, “the house will be incomplete—missing a door or a window. And in the next world, this lack of completion can be a source of shame, G-d forbid. But if you finish it, the house will be whole, strong, and beautiful.”
With heartfelt sincerity, the speaker declared:
“Today, I’m finally fulfilling that mission by relaying this timeless message once more—to encourage our yeshiva students to always finish what they start. Complete your Masechtos. Make a proper Siyum. Build your homes in Olam Haba.”
He concluded with a powerful exhortation:
“If someone truly wants to grow in Torah, they will find the time—not only for deep learning, but also for mastering Gemara with breadth and fluency. Use your time wisely. Keep learning. Don’t waste a moment.”
His final words carried the weight of a fulfilled promise—and a blessing for the future:
“May you all be blessed with success, growth, and true satisfaction in Torah.”
