A vehicle found unoccupied near Lake Shenandoah last night prompted an all-out water rescue team response.
The vehicle was spotted around 9 PM, after the park’s closing, giving police reason to believe the registered owner of the vehicle – a 78 year-old man from Brick – may have disappeared into the lake.
Lakewood’s water rescue team – consisting of members from the police department, EMS, Lakewood First Aid and Hatzolah – responded to the scene, and light towers were set up as officials began searching the waters.
Approximately an hour later, police managed to track down the owner of the vehicle, who said he’d loaned out his vehicle two two females who had apparently abandoned the vehicle in the park, Sergeant Summer Cunliffe, a member of the dive team told TLS.
Other sources say the women are known to “be up to no good,” and that they had allegedly been involved in illegal activity in the area before dumping the vehicle.
Sergeant Cunliffe thanked the dozens of volunteers who responded to the scene, including EMS, Hatzolah, Lakewood First Aid and Chaveirim.
