VIDEO & PHOTOS: Lakewood’s Rav Simcha Bunim Cohen Honors Bachurim who Got Rid of Their Smartphones in Honor of Reb Shimon Bar Yochai

A memorable event was held today at the home of prominent Lakewood Rav, Harav Simcha Bunim Cohen.

Last night, 11 boys threw out their phones in honor of Reb Shimon Bar Yochai, and today, Rav Cohen wanted to honor them for their bold move.

Rabbi Cohen told the Bachurim how impressed he was with their ability to overcome this strong Nisayon, especially in 2022.

After giving the boys Divrei Chizuk, Rabbi Cohen handed each boy a signed $100 bill, and let each boy put on a Yarmulka from Hagaon Rabbi Moshe Feinstein Zatzal.

The memorable event concluded with singing and dancing.

  1. Any idea where the boys threw out those phones? I’m thinking that there are thousands of dollars worth of phones in a garbage somewhere, free for the taking.

  2. Wow!!! Rav Cohen Shlita is my Choshuva Friend from when we were Bochurim together in Eretz Yisrael many years ago, And now has become one of the Gedolay Hador of Lakewood ,and the world.

  3. I was privileged to have Rabbi Cohen Shlita as a close friend and Chavrusa when we were together in Mirrer Yeshiva in Eretz Yisrael in the 1970’s and am definitely very happy and impressed that we are Zoche to have him here in Town as on of the Gedolay Hador

  4. Wow, I’m super impressed by these amazing bochorim, to have the courage to through their phones away into a fire. Everyone should learn from those 11 boys, to make an amazing kiddush hashem wherever you go.

  5. WOW!! Klal Yisroel is proud of you!! Ashrei Chalkam. “Yesh mi shekona olam habah bshah achas”!! Im jealous of their courage.

  6. Ploni: “I burned my phone yesterday.”
Ploni’s Friend: “Is the phone insured?”
Ploni: “Idiot! I intentionally destroyed it.”
Ploni’s Friend: “Oh, you mean as a geder and a shmira. I’m really impressed. Smart!”
Ploni: “How did you know it was a smart phone?”
Ploni’s Friend: “Who says I knew it was a smart phone?”
Ploni: “So you’re telling me it was an educated guess and a surmisal on your part? Smart!”
    Ploni’s Friend: “Huh?”

  7. So which group of bochrim from which Yeshiva will be the next ones to take the leap of Mesiras Nefesh for Hashem and stand up for Torah and make a big kiddush Hashem?

The Rav is waiting to meet more of such brave bochrim who are Moser Nefesh for Hashem and yiddishkeit and has more signed hundred dollar bills waiting to be given out to such special bochrim.

  8. It’s really not nice to be making fun as most of these comments seem to be doing.
Even if you use a smartphone, we all are aware that it’s not the best thing, and all the more so for teenage boys.

  9. This is next level!! And no doubt these boys will be repaid ten-fold from Hashem who is surely shepping untold nachas! Simply beautiful!
