VIDEO & PHOTOS: Lakewood Piners Defeat Manasquan in Sectional Finals

VIDEO & PHOTOS: The Lakewood High School is celebrating today with the Varsity Basketball Team’s victory over the Manasaquan Basketball Team Sunday evening in the Sectional Finals State Tournament, with a score of 62-49 – as reported last night on our News Alerts.

“I’m happy for their work – they made a lot of sacrifices,” Athletic Director John Craddox said moments after the buzzer went off.

John ‘Pott’ Richardson – the former coach who the Gymnasium was recently dedicated in honor of – was proud as can be last night.

“This team has been resilient all year, they worked hard, they’ve fought through odds and they’ve done a fantastic job,” Richardson said.

The gym was so packed last night, that over 100 were unable to purchase tickets – and were turned down.

Also in attendance was the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Committeeman Lichtenstien, and several Board of Education officials.

The Championship team will now move on to play other Sectional Tournament winners, in their goal to win the full State Championship. TLS.

  1. is the lakewood scoop really a website that follows the basketball teams of the local goyish schools? i understand keeping tabs on government officials, and local news outside of our community, etc but i thought this website was for the frum community. many of our kids go on this site and i feel it to be completly unneccesary for them to read about this and even more so to have a video. otherwise i enjoy your site very much.

  2. To confused, Its people like you that make friction between the town. Why do we need to be seperate. This is the Lakewood scoop Not the Frum scoop. Lert me ask you when you have someone patrolling on a friday night making sure your okay thats okay right because its in your best interest? Go somewhere else with your closed mind.

  3. To confused
Go read the about us section and your question will be answered. When good things happen in Lakewood it should bring pride to all residents.

  4. To confused:
It is news out of Lakewood..Its great thing what the scoop does but keeping tabs on gov’t officials is not all the news..the local Public HS is always getting a bad rap..having them win a sectional championship is BIG news for Lakewood as a hole..these kids bust their (moderated) every year..26 yrs is a long time to go without a championship..and this was great for the lakewood community and lakewood as a whole.

If you would prefer the scoop didnt keep up with all the goings on in town that is one thing..but if you think just the one community is important here than you should rethink your position..Lakewood is not just one community..its 100k people not just jewish, its Lakewood we are built on the notions of our diversity and pride of who we are..I have been a resident of lakewood for over 40 yrs..I love this town I work here Im a Volunteer FF here..Its my home..and no matter what happens I support my residents..if your new to lakewood join in and enjoy the community affairs..its not all just about keeping tabs on the government officials..this is our life town..
Lakewood HS Piners Rock!!! hense the name LAKEWOOD!!! its not always about the bad news here this actually gives us something to cheer about.
Thanks Scoop for what you do.. Sorry Im long winded ..happens sometimes

  5. way to go piners !!!! PMA nice reporting scoop . but when doing a story on the lakewood basket ball team i would think we would see more pictures of the young men that played the game as apposed to 5000000 pictures of the mayor and town counsil.. thats said great job lakewood needed this…. parade anyone ?

  6. Comments like the one above from “Confused” make smoke come out of my ears. The frum community of Lakewood will never be welcomed here or anywhere as long as that type of attitude is around.

If anyone thinks that the majority of non-frum think that his comments are not indicitive of most of the frum community, you are sadly mistaken. I am not saying he represents the community, but the overwhelming belief is such.

Congrats Piners! Hope you make it through and win the TOC.

  7. Obviously he was just trying to rile up the oilam. If he lets his kids surf the net, he should hope that the “worst” thing they see is a sports game video on TLS.

  8. Great job Piners! Makin those that walked before you PROUD! Travelled TWO HOURS to see this game. Awesome job!

  9. I thought the Lakewood Scoop was a site that only reported on scoop related things, such as ice cream? Why are there non ice cream related stories on here? My kids go on here and would be horrified to read a story about something they could not scoop!

  10. TO #2 how selfish can one person be? If you don’t want your kids to see a great school basketball game turn your internet off.

  11. to everyone who blasted me with my last comment….. i apologize and never meant to offend anyone. i truly enjoy the diversity that does exist within lakewood, and i guess i was wrong in assuming that the Lakewood Scoop was a religious jewish website.
i wasnt judging nor upset while writing my comment. i promise. i am very glad that the lakewood high school had a huge victory and wish them much success in the future. but y’all didnt need to jump down my throat and be mean…

  12. Hey everyone, i think #2 was sarcastic….so though the humor was pretty awful lets leave everyone alone and concentrate on the win!! Hey team, we are so proud of your accomplishments!! keep the lakewood spirit going strong!!

  13. The Lakewood HS Basketball Team has finally brought some good press for our town. We’ve been blasted with stories pointing out the problems with slumlords, homeless tent cities, crimes, drugs, etc. These kids have brought pride and joy and good press back to our community. Congratulations for a great year. Good luck in the future.

  14. Jr smith of the Knicks was on the lakewood high school team. So they have a good history of basketball players……go Knicks! I mean go piners!

  15. @ 26
Not really. No hatred of any group of people. But yes, a hatred of certian actions and attitudes, regardless of race or religion. You must have smelled that. Understandable mistake…
