[COMMUNICATED] This week, the Carteret Yeshiva was abuzz as the Rosh HaYeshiva, Harav Azriel Brown Shlit”a, made his 12th Siyum HaShas.
We all know how much he despises Kavod, however the rest of the Hanhala insisted on making it an appropriate “Maimod of Kavod HaTorah”, a respectable event honoring the Torah, maximizing the opportunity to inspire our talmidim. The event was packed with past and present talmidim and number of other distinguished guests. It was an honor to have so many alumni come back to give honor to their Rebbe, The Rosh HaYeshiva shlit”a.
The Program began with Mincha at 3:15pm. Rabbi Yaakov T. Biderman welcomed the attendees and introduced The Rosh HaYeshiva shlit”a. As the Rosh Yeshiva walked up, the crowd broke out in song, honoring their Rebbe, a gadol who usually keeps himself hidden behind his seforim, a pen in hand, shunning the spotlight. The Rosh HaYeshiva then spoke and made The Siyum. Lively music and dancing proceeded led by renowned singer Moshe Katz and musician Rabbi Eli Cohen. The Rosh HaYeshiva, Harav Yaakov Mayer Shlit”a then spoke and introduced his Rebbe and father of Rav Azriel, Harav Moshe Brown Shlit”a, Rav of Agudath Israel of West Lawrence. He was then followed by a speech from Harav Yaakov Bender Shlit”a, Rosh HaYeshiva of Darchei Torah, where Rav Azriel had learned in elementary school. A beautiful hour long Kumzitz followed. In middle, Moshe Katz shared a story about a siyum and then proceeded around the room asking each person to make a kabalah to work toward a siyum of their own.
The beautiful desert-style buffet of pastries, fruit, nuts, chocolate, dried fruit, candy, sushi, hot food, and more, was enjoyed by all.
The Rosh HaYeshiva’s most recent sefer Oiz L’Amoi was given to those who attended, along with an invitation to have it personally inscribed by the Rosh HaYeshiva. The Alumni Association gave out gifts as well.
The Kavod HaTorah was palpable! It was inspiring to all those who participated!
What an inspirational event!
