What an extraordinary and illuminating shiur by Reb Michoel Sorotzkin, renowned for his penetrating vision, remarkable analytical precision, and exceptional gift of articulation. We possess not even the faintest shadow of comprehension of Rav Chaim’s limitless genius, unfathomable depth, dazzling pilpul, and astonishing mastery of the entire breadth of Torah. The shiur on מרן הגר״ח was simply געוואלדיג, ממש הפלא ופלא!
The great חידוש emerging from the entire משא ומתן is that דם of a בהמה שנשחטה ונמצאת טריפה is certainly אסור משום דם, but according to some אחרונים there is an additional איסור טריפה, either מדין יוצא מן האסור or because the דם is considered part of the טריפה itself.
The major נפקא מינה is דם שבישלו. Although the איסור דם may then be only מדרבנן, the separate איסור יוצא remains מדאורייתא. The חידוש of רב חיים is that even דם נבילה carries this independent איסור יוצא, which is not פקע through בישול. The חת״ם סופר also appears to follow this מהלך.
The מראי מקומות were אדירים, and the shiur as delivered by Reb Michoel was ממש יוצא מגדר הרגיל. I listened together with a group of תלמידי חכמים, and everyone was simply amazed. מורא׳דיג, הפלא ופלא, אין מילים!
