VIDEO: Loud Missionary Preachers On Clifton Avenue Quieted By Police

preachers quieted by police picVIDEO: “Do you know the demographics of this town?” Police Officer David Sussman asked two Missionary preachers screaming about “J” on Clifton Avenue today. “That’s why we’re here” they

replied. The men were approached by Officer Sussman after he heard them from nearly a block away, violating the noise ordinance, and were asked to quiet down.

Noise made in a public area which can be heard from over 50 feet away, is in violation of the ordinance.

The men admitted to the Officer that they were arrested once before.

Officer Sussman more than rocks. He is a professional officer that never lets any personal feelings get in the way of upholding the law. He understands what it takes to be an effective, fair, officer in this town, and is sensitive to the needs of all residents. We need officer Sussman to be an example to every officer and sargeant on the force.
Oh, and these two guys should marry the two ladies that used to walk up and down the street a few years back, screaming the gospel. They can just spend their days screaming at their kids all day.

Herschel, where were you?? Seriously though, in a town such as ours is there no one who can walk over to these guys and shut them up intellectually? It’s a little disconcerting that we need the cops to talk to these guys. The regular yeshiva guy could wipe the floors with these guys in a 2 minute discourse.

Anonymous

Actually, Eli, no, they couldn’t. The average yeshiva guy might be armed with the truth, but it takes a trained professional to deal with missionaries. The average yeshiva guy would persuade no one.

office sussman is #1 and always has been fair and cool headed.

having an officer approch them was the best outcome.

if they will come back i am sure there will be some of the old chevra who know how to chase such missionaries out of town.

they were looking for a fight. and they did not get it.

there are missionaries all over town . fi they approch the spanish people or others who are christians- ok with me. Its when they are approching jews to change their belief so they “can save their souls” is digusting.

its like we are notgood for who we are. NO RESPECT.

Do you know the demographics of this town?” Police Officer David Sussman asked two Missionary preachers

What does that question have anything to do with the situation? why would a republican go to a room full of republicans searching for people to join republicans?

Can’t we all be more civil to each other and act like adults. never in all my years have I seen grown adults act like kids over an election Taxes in this town will most likely never go down regardless who’s driving the buss. Unless your family is willing to give up certain services and perks your taxes are going up. The Industrial park cant save this town any more. If taxes are your worry, head south or west my friend

Start with the that train wreck of a Board of Education that’s the base of the Lakewood tax iceberg.

and David,
Nice work!

Do you remember those two ladies that would stand on the corners of Clifton avenue a few years ago shouting out their missionary garbage?!

Eli I have to wonder what you are thinking, just like these two guys yelling the views that they have are pointless so is someone going up to them trying to talk. These guys were not looking for conversation but just to bother people. I am Catholic and no matter what someone says they cannot change my views and thoughts that I now believe but was also instilled in me since I was a child. Why bother let the cops do what they need to do and let these guys go yell in some other town. They think they have it right with religion and you think you have it right.

To # 2, 3, and all others who have an issue with the freedom of speech. Why don’t you read the article fully before commenting.

The issue at hand, was the violation of the noise ordinance not the religion issue.

Always Right

1. Officer Sussman is a credit to the force.
2. Confrontational behavior encourages missionaries, and they get chizuk from the idea that they are moser nefesh for their work.
3. Yes, they want to preach the gospel here, and, truth be told, I would much rather have them (and the two women who were here years ago) here where they would not be taken seriously rather than in a less committed community where they might chas vesholom have an effect on the residents

loud speakers blasting on full volume coming from jewish cars for various different events is not a noise ordinance issue,, yet someone preaching about his/her religion is prohibited? you cant have it both ways!

A noise complaint is a noise complaint – no matter what type of noise it is. Freedom of speech is not the issue here.

Why wasn’t the vote the ‘Vote for Hershel’ loudspeakers on election day silenced due to this noise ordinance?

Isn’t there an ordinance against disturbing the peace. That goes for everyone, including us.

“there are missionaries all over town . fi they approch the spanish people or others who are christians- ok with me. Its when they are approching jews to change their belief so they “can save their souls” is digusting.”

With all due respect as you sir may look down upon these gentlemen as well, I have been approached in Manhattan several times by Jewish “missionaries” asking me to convert to Judaism in different areas of midtown. One particular time I was there for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade wearing my green and was approached and engaged in a discussion about conversion to which they were surprised to learn I was from Lakewood and new a great deal about Judaism already, so I ask you are you only disgusted if a Christian tries to convert someone of the Jewish faith or do you find it wrong for any religious group to try to sway someone to their religion?

I think its a fair question to be asked if we all strive to be tolerant people?

To #9 reponse.

Basic Judaism is not to encourage others to convert. in fact it may discourage. If one wants to their is a long rigorous process to ensure the person is fully committed.

Judaism does NOT encourage proselytizing nonjews.

Wow. This news website refuses to write the name of a historical and religious figure simply because it doesn’t fit in with their view of the world. That sure sounds “fair and balanced.” How about trying to have an even and intelligent view on the world, because while what these two men were doing was rude and ignorant (not because their religion is wrong or right, but because religion causes enough drama and violence already without this nonsense), the way this paper and its readers responded was just as unenlightened. And if this comment doesn’t make it to the comments section, let that just further my point.

the police officer did a gr8 job !!!!!!!!!!!!
when i started watching i was sure that there would be some not not things but it all depends on an officers he acted very smart and profesinal (what a nice clip)an other office would of called 20 back up units and these guys would be draged on the floor to the prison

Lakewood Mom

To #24: I’m quite skeptical about your supposed encounter with Jews proselytizing (unless it was Jews for J.) because it is not part of our religion. In fact as mentioned before, the conversion of non-jews to judaism is discouraged. This is because we don’t believe in eternal damnation for those who don’t convert. But for those who do there’s no going back if it gets too tough.
