[VIDEO BELOW] As earlier reported, an issue was recently brought to light with some of the older Bosch ovens.
As displayed in this reader-submitted video, the oven’s heating source shuts off immediately when the door is opened and re-ignites when it is closed, even when the oven is in Sabbath Mode.
Consumers are advised not to open or close the oven door on Shabbos or YomTov unless the oven is corrected by Bosch, or via a corrective Shabbos Switch or other method that will keep the button down.
“Please note that you still need to put your oven into Sabbath Mode before Shabbos or YomTov, even if you have installed a “ShabbosSwitch”, the Star-K stated earlier. “If you own one of the above models, please contact [email protected] or call Bosch customer service at 800-944-2904. Please provide your name, phone number, and email address, so that the company can coordinate service. Bosch will schedule a service appointment to repair the affected models free of charge.”

Why not just tape safety pin shut like commonly done on refrigerator?
1. An oven is not a refrigerator, it can get really hot! For safety’s sake one must speak with an expert before any changes are made to the manufacturer’s instructions.
2. As far as melacha is concerned neither the refrigerator’s nor the oven’s sensors are disabled by any of the above solutions and to cause a sensor to conduct electricity on Shabbos and Yom Tov is an Issur d’Oraisa.
Of course the sensors are disabled. When my fridge button is pushed down the lights don’t go on and no matter how long the doors are open the machine doesn’t beep that a door is ajar.
Why does the oven need to be on shabbos mode if the sensor was turned off? Is this for all ovens or just the Bosch?
If the sensors are disabled how does the oven regulate the burner temperature? The fact that the external signals are disabled does NOT mean the sensors are not delivering voltage, it just means that certain indicator functions such as lights and alarms have been disabled.
And when those things make it that your opening the door doesn’t change anything.
Ask a technician who can read the schematic if the temperature sensor which is sometimes called a THERMISTOR is in fact connected to the Door Open sensor or not? And what would happen if it EVER became disabled?
will a Shabbos clock/timer work for an oven?
*to cause a sensor to conduct electricity on yom tov is an issur deorysa*
