A driver was hospitalized after being involved in an accident with a Lakewood Police Officer responding to a call today, as earlier reported on our news alerts.
At approximately 8:30 AM, the police officer was traveling on New Hampshire Avenue when he came to a red light at Oak Street. Sources say the officer, with lights and sirens on, “continued slowly through the intersection” when a driver with a green light crashed into the side of the patrol car. The airbags in the patrol car deployed.
The officer wasn’t injured, but the other driver was transported to Ocean Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, officials tell TLS.
Lakewood’s Traffic Safety department is investigating the incident.

Let’s be careful out there. Drive carefully, stay off the hand held phone when driving, be aware of your environment, look around and listen for warnings.
I got into an accident with a police car last month and did not know that all municipalities in NJ have a policy that even if it is their fault they do not pay … I who after police report was at no fault had to go thru my insurance to fix my car and had to even pay the $500 deductiuble….
To mms: This policy is true of all police departments in the country, not just of NJ. You should be aware though that the common practice is to sue the department and/or the officer, if it was his fault then you’ll usually win.
The guy that got sent to the hospitail is my godfather (p.s. He is alright)
happy to hear hes alright
