On June 20,2017 in the ask the mayor forum, the mayor did respond to a question about using the shoulders, and he said Traffic & Safety Dpt did confirm that it IS legal to use the shoulder around left turning cars. Obviously this message board is a response to the guard getting hit, but on that exact intersection of Oak & 9, if these actions will stop being allowed the backup would be among the worst in this town since that corner STILL doesn’t have a turning lane despite the hundreds of cars per day turning there.

See ask the mayor June 7, 2017 where Mayor says its legal as long as it’s done safely!

This is how the Police Dept. gets a bad name.

Everyone wants safe roads. Everyone wants them to ticket bad drivers, cell phone users etc. but when they ticket law-abiding citizens for petty things like this. (Take into consideration the gridlock this town already has)

Then we start to think how much we are paying for their latest cars etc. how unsuccessful they are at catching thieves & how great they are about harassing innocent drivers.

Just think about it.

Sounds like “me” got caught doing something wrong and got a ticket…or he/she just likes to overgeneralize.

sounds like “let me guess” dosent drive at all. “me”s main point was that there are a lot of other important things to be busy with instead of wasting time on petty things that will only cause more traffic.

To set the record, I’m a law abiding citizen that has never been pulled over over the course of my decade-plus driving history here in Lakewood.

I am bothered by the amount of property tax I pay towards the police department and how when my friends and neighbors need help from them (because of non-law abiding citizens) they get a cold shoulder (we cant stop the crime… or even catch a thief that has been videotaped!)

I’m bothered by how many accidents are caused by drunk & maniac drivers who weren’t caught in time, but yet they somehow manage to “catch” that old Bubby just in the nick of time before she does a violent act of going in a shoulder…

hope you get the point

I believe the sign is referring to people that cross the yellow lines to get to the left turning lane. As someone who turns on to Pine from New Hampshire every morning, and often has to veer out of the path of cars in the wrong lane, I am happy to see them enforcing this law.

This is something anyone could ask Chief Gregory Meyer about!

Just saying..

Wait until you see the gridlock. If someone is making a left turn and you can’t use the shoulder to get around them traffic will back up for blocks….just another fun driving day in Lakewood.

Perhaps obeying the basic of Traffic Laws would suffice.

Stop running through “Stop-signs”! Astonishing how many do this on a minute to minute basis – it’s dangerous and negligent.

No need to ask the Mayor – just follow the rules.

Amazing how People tend to always fight and respond with childish & defensive statements – FOLLOW THE RULES – SAFER DRIVING.

It’s not difficult – it’s English.

No one cares until G-D forbid it affects a loved one. Sad but true.

Let's use the shoulder

This is nuts. The shoulder would have much more use as a lane than as a shoulder. How many is a shoulder used for a disabled car ? Twice a year ? So no one can use it a whole yr cuz someone might get a flat PUNKT over there. That’s not so normal.

who is running this show anyways?

I have seen countless pedestrians nearly mowed down by cars passing on the shoulder in places where there is no sidewalk for them to walk. This is not only illegal but deadly. Not only for pedestrians but for cars turning into the intersection or street who don’t see cars passing on the right. I can’t believe that yidden care more about gridlock or getting somewhere 2 seconds sooner than the possibility that there may be some hapless bachur standing on the other side of a little hill on the shoulder waiting for a ride and passing on the shoulder at 40 mph won’t give you a chance or space to miss him.

I predicted that the crossing guard at oak and the 9 would get hit and that only a trafffic light is the answer and it took less than a month. When will lives matter here?

A Driver

The crossing guard was standing on the sidewalk, not the shoulder.

Based on the NJ driving Book it appears it is legal to go over a solid white line when the white line is on the right side. But not when the white line is on the left side.
