  1. My wife recently screamed at me for leaving a mess after supper.
    I gave her a long stare of disappointment and told her, “You know something? I could have done better, a lot better!”
    “Better than me?” she said. “I don’t think so.”
    And then she walked away from me in a fit of anger.
    But I repeated my assertion and insisted to her:
    “I could have done better! I could have done a better job cleaning up after supper! I could have done better, a lot better!”
