Moshe, I don’t get your comment. Most new houses have their drainage piped into a drywell system. So really the opposite. The more houses that go up the less rain that hits the ground! Whatever hits a new roof never makes it to the street!
And what about the new driveways, sidewalks, parking lots and streets…..all those spaces that used to absorb the rainwater. For every new home, there is a lot more involved than a roof. Moshe is right.

First time I saw County Line get so bad… especially the right lane going from Hope Chapel to Rt. 9. Very dangerous.
What does new houses to do with floods ??? Is stopping new houses the answer to every problem in the world?
Come on, it was a bad storm, not only in Lakewood, not only in New Jersey, in the whole Trip State area, older developments, usually don’t have such good drainage as the newer streets, we are proud of the members of chaveirim, Ahavas Yisroel at its best, & this should be a lesson for more Achdus, not foolish statements.
Moshe is correct. If you take away trees and open fields and replace it with black top and concrete, you are going to have alot of more water runoff. Trees and open fields absorb allot more rain than any drainage system.
More houses = Less trees. Less trees + No where for the water to go = Flooding

U r correct that the new houses have a piped system but where do u think the water goes?? If the drainage capacity isn’t good then the floods still happen.
The more u build the less trees etc and hence a drainage problem. The piping system is only a nicer way of doing it but u still need place for the water to go
manhattan doesn’t flood.
Manhattan was built with better drainage. When Lakewood’s master plan was mapped out decades ago, the drainage was built accordingly. Now with new construction, the existing drainage can’t handle the new construction.
