VIDEO: Garbage Truck Takes Out Wires, Causes Fire, Power Outages

VIDEO: A garbage truck dropping off a trash bin took out wires, which caused a fire and power outages early this morning, Sgt. Glenn Clayton tells TLS.

The private garbage truck finished dropping off a bin at the BP Gas Station on River Avenue near Chestnut Street at about 5 am this morning, and mistakenly knocked down wires as he was leaving.

In the process, a pole snapped and caused another pole to catch fire, Clayton says.

The incident caused power outages to the area North and West of the scene.

Clayton says the Toms River Police Department assisted in shutting down part of River Avenue due to the backup it was causing.

The road was reopened between 6:30-7:00 AM.

Several traffic lights are still out, and police are directing traffic in the area. TLS-464/TLS-CCP.
