farmers market lakewoodVIDEO of the head of the Downtown Commission thanking those that helped bring the Farmer’s Market to the downtown. “The initial response was very positive” he says. “Many people were thrilled to find produce that they cant find in supermarkets”. “Many showed up with farmer checks from WIC, and were thrilled that they didn’t have to travel far to use them”.

  1. you don’t have to travel far to use wic vegetable checks – go to your local store that accepts wic – like the coop, shloimy’s, farm fresh etc.

  2. If I’m not mistaken, the policy has changed. You can use the fruit and vegetable checks in your local grocery store. You dont have to go to a farmers market. Please check your facts before posting!

  3. To clarify, in the summer WIC has EXCTRA cheques that are good for LOCALLY grown produce only. These are diferent from the regular monthly cheques that can be used at any WIC accepted store. These can only be used at certain farms and farmers markets often entailing a lengthy drive. (But hey, after the drive there is free fruits/veggies, so no one is complaining!) This new farmers market in the heart of downtown just makes it easier on all.
