VIDEO: Cory Booker: “In my lifetime, there are more people that have died of gun violence than in every single war in our nation’s history”

On Tuesday, following a spate of horrific mass shootings in recent days, most recently in Boulder, Colorado, and Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. Senator Cory Booker participated in the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing on gun violence and proposed safety reforms.

Key Excerpts

“We forget the very mandate of our government of our federal government and so the best mandate is perhaps the Constitution of the United States of America that begins with the purpose of why we’re all here. And I just read the first four reasons why we’re here, ‘We the people of the United States in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, and provide for the common defense….’ And if you look at that, in the context of the slaughter of hundreds and hundreds of thousands of Americans — I’m roughly 50 years old — in my lifetime, there are more people that have died of gun violence than in every single war in our nation’s history, from the revolution, to the current wars going on right now. Why? Why are we here? Why did we establish this government if not to better defend ourselves? And yet we see slaughter every day.”

“…we are way out of step with every other nation on the planet Earth in the number of Americans that are being killed. And somehow we don’t think we have the power to stop this…. It trashes our strength in our economy, because every gunshot wound in America costs us hundreds of thousands of dollars. But that’s nothing compared to what it’s doing to our nation’s soul. We must create a more beloved community, and the lies or the fear mongering about how somehow law-abiding citizens won’t have access to guns is just belied by the evidence and the data.”

“We are not fulfilling our mandate. We do not have domestic tranquility. We do not have a common defense, with death levels that no one country is seeing. And dear God, clearly we do not have justice.”

  1. Spartacus is oblivious to the statistics of who the majority of killing by guns is. He’s a grandstanding blowhard with no facts to stand on. I guess he can blame the wind when he loses the next election. Oh, I forgot, NJ has a no-bid no-limit contract with a famous voting machine company that nobody looked at since 2009.

  2. Pretty sure it is already illegal to murder people, and the vast majority of crimes with guns are with illegally purchased guns.

    But lets pass a new law, banning guns from law abiding citizens, maybe the murderers will who don’t care about other laws will follow that one.

  3. Hey Spartacus, work on getting the illegal guns off the streets, that is where most of the killing occur. Take the guns away from the gangs and leave the legal gun owners alone.

  4. Mostly in cities run for decades by his fellow democrats. Mass shootings account for less murders in the last decade than murders in any one year in Chicago alone, a city run by democrats for the last 90 years.

  5. I have done the following:
    (1) purchased for one of my sons (a physician here in NJ) a Ruger AR-556 rifle, to add to his recently purchased handgun and shotgun, for home defense;
    (2) purchased for a second son (a law enforcement officer in NY [yes, there are frum cops]) both a Dickinson XX3D shotgun and a Smith&Wesson M&P-15 rifle, to add to his two already owned service weapons.

    The Ruger and Smith&Wesson are examples of the currently very popular AR-15 “style” rifles, (which cannot actually be called AR-15s due to that designation being a trademark owned by Colt). Additionally, so many Democrat politicians are woefully ignorant of the fact that the “A” in “AR” does NOT stand for “assault” rifle; it stands for “Armalite,” the company that originated the design.

    The bottom line is that, in these precarious times when antisemitism is rearing its ugly head from both the extreme left and right; when Antifa and BLM freely riot, loot and burn down neighborhoods with the acquiescence of the Dems and their media puppets; and when the Democrats are plotting their way towards authoritarian one-party rule, we Jews had better start opening our eyes to the need to prepare for self-defense, Rachmana Litzlan.
