When Hatzalah Paramedic Simcha Shain recently met a Camp Simcha camper, he asked her how camp was.
She answered that it was incredible, but she was disappointed that due to medical complications she was unable to be in camp for “helicopter day.”
Simcha, who is part of the Lev Shlomo Dream Team established by the Zakheim family in memory of Reb Shlomo Zakheim Z”L and runs helicopter day during each session at Camp Simcha each summer, immediately assured the young camper that he will arrange something special for her.
A week later, Miss Lederer of Bikur Cholim, who is also the little girl’s Big Sister, reached out to Chai Lifeline and offered helicopter rides for other children battling illness who didn’t have the opportunity to attend Camp Simcha this year.
On Wednesday afternoon, a unique group of Chai Lifeline children and their families gathered at the Lakewood airport for a thrilling adventure.
Their wide smiles and exclamations of awe said it all.
“Getting a birds eye view of their own neighborhood was an exhilarating experience that the children will remember forever,” said Chai Lifeline. “Chai Lifeline is deeply grateful to the Zakheim, Weiss and Shain families, Yehoshua Leib Lapides, and everyone who helped make this happen for their dedication to children and families battling illness.”
Kudos to R’ Simcha and PD for going way beyond their call of duty to bring miles of smiles to these precious children and their families. What this camp and these rides do for these kids is absolutely amazing.
