VIDEO: Assembly Majority Leader Louis D. Greenwald (D-Camden) today issued a statement on his legislation to reduce the maximum capacity of gun magazines sold in New Jersey to 10 rounds of ammunition.
Under current law, magazines capable of holding a maximum of 15 rounds of ammunition are legal in New Jersey. Greenwald’s bill would reduce the lawful maximum capacity of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds. The limit proposed by the bill would bring New Jersey’s laws in line with the magazine limits contained in the original 1994 assault weapons ban, which limited magazines to 10 rounds.
A transcript of comments from Majority Leader Greenwald is appended below:
“I think this is one of the most important bills in the entire package of bills that we’ve introduced to deal with gun violence. What this bill would do is limit the number [of bullets] in a magazine to 10 rounds, which currently you can exceed that amount and that was, again, bringing it back to 10 rounds brings us back to where we were under President Clinton before the assault weapons ban expired.
“I think what’s important to point out also is we build cars every day that have the capacity to drive upwards of 200 miles per hour, yet we don’t allow them to drive at that speed. We put reasonable caps on to protect peoples’ safety. This is a very similar component. It does not attack the weapons. It doesn’t go out and say these weapons cannot be in the marketplace. But what it does is put a cap on the ability to make sure that it balances the right of the Second Amendment with citizens’ safety.” TLS.

YOU DONT ALLOW THEM TO NOT DRIVE AT THAT SPEED, BY MAKING LAWS, NO BLOCKAGES. RESTRICTING HOW MANY BULLETS MY GUN CAN HOLD, IS THE EQUIVALENCE TO ONLY ALLOWING MY CAR TO REACH 65MPH. but since we dont have governors on our cars; your example doesnt even make sense.
All these bills are total garbage. Not one thing they have suggested would have made a difference at Sandy Hook. No one is concentrating on Mental Health issues. 26 people per day are killed each day by drunk drivers – big yawn. All they want is for us to be unable to defend ourselves against thugs and the government. These politicians don’t give a whip about us. They have plenty of fire power protecting them
OK. Max 10 rounds. And no exemptions for the cops either. Do you cops out there hear that?
