Verrazano Closure For Five-Boro Bike Tour

verrezano_bridge_tls_airial_picTRAFFIC ALERT: Today, May 1, the lower level of the Staten Island-bound Verrazano-Narrows Bridge from all approaches will be closed to all traffic beginning at 12:01 a.m. and ending at approximately 6 p.m. for the annual TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour. The upper level of the bridge heading into Staten Island will remain open from the BQE and Belt Parkway approaches only, as will both levels of the bridge traveling into Brooklyn (eastbound).

Motorists are advised to expect heavy delays and seek alternate routes if possible. For Verrazano-Narrows traffic info call: Verrazano-Narrows Five Boro Bike Tour Hotline at (212) 360-3000.

Here are specific closing times for Verrazano-Narrows Bridge:
12:01 a.m.: All lanes, both directions, lower level of bridge, closed.
7 a.m. – 6 p.m.: Bay Street exit in Staten Island closed.
10 a.m.: 92nd Street entrance ramp (Staten Island-bound) closed to vehicular traffic.

Expected Times to Reopen:
8 a.m.: Brooklyn-bound lower level – two out of three lanes re-opened.
5 p.m.: 92nd Street ramp to upper level ONLY (Staten Island-bound) re-opened.
6 p.m.: Staten Island-bound lower level and all other closed lanes re-opened.

In addition, drivers may also experience delays at Brooklyn Battery Tunnel:
7 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Trinity Place exit closed to Manhattan-bound customers exiting the tunnel. Drivers will be detoured to West Street.

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Westbound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (I-278W) will be closed from Atlantic Avenue to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Brooklyn-bound traffic will be diverted to the Hamilton Avenue exit ramp after toll plaza. Brooklyn Eagle.

  1. does anyone know if it will be possible to use the fort hamilton and 76th st ramp to the verrazano bridge at around 1:00 ?

  2. according to the bike route and 311 , the roads should be clear from 76th st ramp to upper level.
    please advise otherwise
