Verizon and Sprint Customers Could be owed a Refund; Week left to Claim

iphone texting smartphoneIf you’re a Verizon or Sprint customer, you have a week left to claim a refunds for unauthorized charges on your bill.

As reported back in May, the wireless carriers settled with the FTC after allowing third-party companies to charge customers for services without their prior consent, and then alleged buried the charges in customers’ bills – something known as “cramming.”

The companies will be paying over $100 million to settle the case.

Current and former customers who paid for unauthorized third-party PSMS (Premium SMS) charges after July 1, 2010 and who did not receive a credit for those charges may apply for refunds.

But don’t get too excited, as refunds could be minimal.

“Sprint prepaid (Virgin Mobile, Boost Mobile, Sprint Prepaid, and Assurance Wireless) customers are eligible for a one-time refund of $7.00 for unauthorized charges that were not previously refunded,” Sprint wrote. “Please note that actual refund amounts may be lower depending on the total number of claims submitted in this case.”

You would also need to file a request no later than December 31, 2015 to get a refund.

Verizon customers can file a claim online here, and Sprint customers here.
