USPS Seeks To Save $750 Million

post office clifton ave tlsUSPS offices across the Country may become even more annoying as the USPS  today unveiled a restructuring program which would save some $750 million in annual costs by closing seven administrative offices and eliminating 7,500 jobs. The actions are the latest in a series of cutbacks the USPS has undertaken as it has accumulated billions of dollars in losses while coping with a steep decline in mail demand.

Earlier last week, TLS reported about dozens of customers who were left waiting at the Clifton Avenue office due to a staff shortage.

  1. Shame on the post office – they had the market cornered, and lost it to Fedex and UPS. They should concentrate on recapturing an amazing market – all online ordering is getting shipped and getting returned – it should be a great moneymaking industry – make the service better/easier to use/ and you can still recapture your hold on this marketplace!

  2. Why can’t the Lakewood Post office get more help. the lines are very long. Also, it would be helpful to the community if they would have Sunday hours (maybe 9-12) Almost every single bank in the area has Sunday hours which provides a nice service to our community. Even if just the lobby were to have hours so we can pick up Saturday’s mail from a PO box. Who can we ask to do this?

  3. this is ridiculous. usps is supposed to be a service to the public. how can they do that? it only brings on more complaints from very unsatisfied customers and makes things worse for people. and a huge waste of time waiting in line when there is only ONE employee behind the counter. they better do something soon to get the service up and running again. how do they expect to make money if they’re gonna run a slow service to people? this is the USPS for goodness sakes.

  4. The post office in 2008 posted an operating profit, and in 2009 and 2010 posted a small operating loss. However, the union negotiated that retirees have their health insurance paid for. In addition, some politicians needed a sludge fund, and therefore decided that the retiree health fund must be prefunded to the tune of $2 billion for the next five years. Therefore, the USPS must pay $2 billion a year to the US government trust fund, in order to have an account set up, guaranteed by the US government. In other words, get an IOU from the government, with the promise they will pay for the benefits when the employees retire, with the government reporting $2 billion in income.

  5. THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE IS A DEAD BUSINES
THEY KNOW IT TOO. LET’S FACE IT WITH EMAIL AND FED EX AND UPS WHO NEEDS THEM

THE ONLY REASON THEY EXIST AND ARE STILL AROUND IS BECAUSE THEY SELL STAMPS,,,,,,,,,,

IF NOT FOR THAT WHY WOULD I HAVE TO GO TO THE POST OFFICE. ……… BY THE WAY THEY COULD NEVER GO BACK TO TRY TO RECAPTURE THE MARKET!

IT’S TOO LATE— THEY BLEW IT
THEY WAITED TOO LONG AND BELIVED THEY WERE GOING TO BE AROUND FOREVER.

LOOK AROUND YOU ? HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE CELL PHONES.

THE DAYS OF THE PERSONAL MAIL TO WHOEVER IS OVER
WE CAN CONTAC ANYONE WE WANT AT ANYTIME!!!!!

AS FAR AS THE LAKEWOOD POST OFFICE, I REALLY HOPE THEY DON’T WASTE MONEY ON A ENDANGER SPECIES!!!!

  6. The writing was always on the wall. When you see on employee behind the counter and long lines you know the what the deal is? I don’t mean to disappoint anyone’s expectations about the future of the USPS but i never been wrong with my predictions in regards to how technology changes society. I have a very good track record and have been working with technology since high school.

If Fed Ex or any of the other package private carriers are ever given the green light to sell stamps , you will see a rapid decline in USPS business, and i mean rapid.

It’s not personal , it business
