USPS Looking To Establish Contract Postal Unit In Downtown

The Lakewood Post Office would like to establish a Contract Postal Unit in the vicinity of downtown Lakewood, USPS Corporate Communications officer Ray V. Daiutolo Sr., APR, tells TLS. Contract Postal Units provide another way to access postal services while providing retail businesses with an opportunity to generate walk-in traffic and provide one-stop shopping convenience for customers. The units sell stamps, offer postal products and services, and accept letters and parcels for mailing.

Interested businesses need about 180 square feet available within their business and need to have handicap accessibility.

In October, TLS reported that the Downtown Post Office would be moving ahead with their closure plans, and relocate their retail offices to the Swarthmore location.

Any interested parties should contact the district Retail Manager, Dennis Palandro, in writing by close of business 2/17/2012 to: Dennis Palandro, Manager of Retail, 501 Benigno Blvd, Bellmawr NJ 08031. TLS.

  1. just do us all a favor and disolve the usps already. it does nothing but bleed billions yes billions of our tax dollars away every year. not millions , not hundreads of millions but billions.. shut it down…. shut it down now….

  2. There is no way to make money with this! The usps won’t allow mailbox rentals or ups or fedex in the same location and your really limited how much money you can make by selling stamps!

  3. it never made any sense o have both the downtown location and the one in the industrial park ,but I guess thats why they are in financial trouble ~ bad decissions equal poor financial planning . part of the problem is the government itself the way it bleeds money out of the system and of course now with electronic transactions no need to mail your bills .The post office might just go the way of the horse & buggy

  4. To #1, the USPS is not funded by tax dollars. That is part of the reason that locations need to close. Many people want the cheapest mail possible and balk at the cost of stamps rising. There is still staff that needs to be paid. I don’t hear many of you volunteering to pick up your mail at the post office. You would much prefer someone brings it to you.

  5. The contract units are not much of a gold mine to the operator. There was one near me in a pharmacy that had a “captive audience”, being the only pharmacy within walking distance of two large senior communities (including Leisure Village – 3400 residents). The pharmacy discontinued it. #4’s suggestion that a location that needs more foot traffic might make it marginally worthwhile.
