In light of the recent rise in number of alleged attempts of luring or inappropriate behavior, the Lakewood Civilian Safety Watch (LCSW) is strongly urging every Lakewood resident to report to the authorities without delay any suspicious activity or persons of concern with as much detail as possible, says LCSW Coordinator Pinny Werner.
“The Police Department is taking the necessary steps on a patrol level for our children’s safety and residents are asked to be alert as well.
Residents should realize that every bit of information is potentially crucial in helping police with ongoing investigations. Even if you did not witness an actual crime or criminal activity, however you feel that there is something very odd or suspicious, it is very advisable to report it. It is important to realize that only if information is reported and documented with a police report can it can be used by detectives to establish patterns, history, track suspicious vehicles through description or license plate number, help identify individuals of suspicion, find witnesses to crimes etc.
Law enforcement is working hard to keep us safe, and they depend on the eyes and ears of the community to assist them by informing them of anything that could possibly be a matter of concern or that could help them in their investigations.”
Lakewood Police Chief Gregory Meyer has issued a message to all residents, expressing the importance of being in contact with police, saying: “Fast response helps police solve a majority of crimes reported. Please call 24hrs a day to 732-363-0200. Press ‘0’ for a dispatcher.”
