Urgent Message from Lakewood Fire Chief Jon Yahr

With winds gusting to 40 MPH across the state this afternoon, fire officials are warning of a high wildfire risk throughout the area.

Speaking to TLS, Lakewood Fire Department Chief Jon Yahr cautioned residents to be extremely careful about leaving items with an ignition risk outdoors.

“Any ignition sources such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches may ignite a fire on dried grasses or leaves that could spread quickly,” he said, adding that all “outdoor burning is discouraged.”

The Lakewood Fire Department already responded to two small brush fires today.

  1. Anybody want to bet on the likelihood the two brushfires were from firecrackers/firecracker related paraphernalia?
We can get the outs from a gambling site is we can just call it 65% firecracker related 25% kids playing with fire, and 10% anything else.
