URGENT: Hagaon Reb Simcha Bunim Cohen Shlita Urges Community To Contact Legislators To Protest To’eiva Marriage Bill (Contact Info)

simcha bunim shlita trentonAUDIO: In a phone message this evening, Hagaon Reb Simcha Bunim Cohen Shlita calls on the Lakewood community to contact our Senators in order to prevent “one of the most important laws which is Nogaya to the whole world”. “Everybody should call their Senators and tomorrow should be Mosef Lechol Hapachos 3 Kapitlach Tehillim and to learn extra Torah”. “In this Z’chus the Eibershter should have Rachmanus that this Gezeirah Ra’ah should not be passed”. PLEASE NOTE: The audio clip was recorded by TLS. We were made aware that another website has once again taken our clip without consent, and using it as their own. The practice is against Halacha and copyright laws.

  1. My child answered the phone tonight. He wanted to know what we needed to call our senators about. He wanted to know if the world was coming to an end. I expalined to him that everyone has things they feel are very important, and feel we all need to voice our protest against. He pressed further. What is it totty? He asked. I told him there are some people who have a different way of life that we don’t approve of. Why did the rav say it will ruin your marriage? He feels, um, uh. Well I guess he feels that if the government recognizes these strange peoples marriages the same as ours than that would make them the same as us. Who cares what the goyishe government thinks anyway? We believe in the torah? Well I uh, bedtime!
Then I started thinking. After reading the scoop for so many weeks now. Seeing all the problems that face our town. Political fighting. Schools not having room. Criminals in the middle of our town. Kids going off. Slumlords bringing criminals to our town.
So many problems that affect us right now. I never got a chain call regarding any of these matters. There was never an outcry.
I doubt our mayor would have to perform one same gender marriage in the near future. And if he did, would my ruchnius suffer? Would hashem hold me liable for some crazy person that decides to play house? I hope not. Will he ask me why I looked down upon my fellow yid, or stood by while my neighbor caused an actual sakana that hurt women and children, maybe, yeah.

Maybe it’s time for you to learn Parshas Noach with Rashi.
The worst part of this whole episode is the unfortunate reality that many among us don’t have a bereft of yiddishe gefeel as evidenced by anonymous.

  3. I have been asking this for a while and nobody has even attempted to answer, “how will this bill affect us”????
Instead of telling me to say tehillim and make calls- explain how this will affect moishe in westgate!

  4. post #1, you are a mechutzaf of the highest order calling yourself (even for a joke) avigdor miller. Then we wonder why the aibershter is allowing so much indecency in the world. Ah bissel deredch eretz pls.

With all due respect, take your head out of the sand! Are you living in an alternate reality? Have you no awareness of what’s going on in the world around you?
Are you aware that children in public and even non-public schools are being taught to consider alternate lifestyles? If this treacherous bill goes through, text books will be mandated to include teaching and even promoting alternate lifestyles.

  6. #8,
With all due respect, this subject is not being shoved down any childs throat to consider! You cant make someone change the way they were born to have that lifestyle.
If hashem yiracheim this terrible gezaira gets passed, if possibly its placed in a text book, it will be removed by the yeshivas just like we remove the “subject” from biology books currently!
A side note, im not sure where you went to school but i never had a subject or topic explaining what defines marriage in my school books.

Im sick of people using fear to convince me whats wrong
My head remains in the sand to avoid watching how this subject is being called a gezaira when in reality it has zero affect on us!

You truly do have your head in the sand!

  8. #11, Thanks for proving my point yet again!
Are you telling me that if i would tell you about toeiva lifestyle a bunch of times that you would all of a sudden decide to change your lifestyle?
The insanity and ignorance has reached an all time low!!

  9. R’ Simcha Bunim shlita has a mesorah and represents daas Torah. If you have another daas Torah, so be it. But cut out the boich sevoros, Please!

  10. Moishe in WestGate,
Chazal tell us “Haroeh Sota b’kilkulah yazir atzmo min hayayin”. The commentaries ask, that if anything one who sees a Sota b’kilkulah will be inspired to do behave appropriately, so why would it be necessary to be yazir atzmo min hayayin? One of the answers given, is because when one witnesses an aveira even though the observer is repulsed nevertheless, the possibility of engaging in that aveira has seeped into his mind; hence, yazir atzmo min hayayin. The same idea is expressed by Rashi regarding Amalek cooling off the scalding waters.
This is the reason we do not publicize our aveiros as it becomes possible for others to entertain similar actions.

  11. It seems to me that anyone who argues that this bill will not effect us has not done too much Torah studying himself. The Gemorah in Sanhedrin states that the edict for the Mabul went into effect when the courts started issuing certifications of marriage for gay couples.

On the basis of that Gemorah, if this would start happening in America, even though Hashem already said he wouldn’t destroy the world through a deluge, however, there are alot of other terrible calamiities that can strike. So if you do not wish to be killed by a wild tornato, or if you would prefer not to have your house collapse in an earthquake, then get yourself down to Trenton and demonstrate against this henious crime perpetuated by the scum of society.

  12. To Moshe of Westgate:

I would have to assume all of Hollywood and shmutz like that gets your approval since our kids don’t (?) watch television or go to movies. You can’t say TV and movies haven’t shaped the world around us over the past 50 years. The same is with this toyeiva.

  13. if the law passes, its possible that if pple would want to do such a marriage in a shul, then it would be discrimination to not allow them to.

  14. Im not sure how your noses wetness plays a role, however, you do make some excellent points. I for one do not want an earthquake or any other evil for that matter. We need to wake up and place our priorities in order.

  15. Has everyone forgotten about the seperation of church and state in this country. Why is it that other people feel the need to legislate there beliefs upon everyone else? If two people who are gay choose to marry, how does that effect your marrage or your life. Do you honestly believe that if gay marage is legalized in NJ it will cause non gay people to turn gay. I don’t think anyone would choose that life style. There are far more pressing issues to be delt with. Remember a time not all that long ago when Jews were not allowed to practice there religion or live freely, now the shoe is on the other foot and our leaders are going to impose their will upon other people and worst of all these people are not even members of our community who we interact with. Its disgusting!

  16. Regarding #17:

The bill would allow clergymen to refuse to solemnize marriages that are agains their religion (Freedom of Religion).

    Regarding #19 (and others):

We don’t believe in “gay people”.

  17. Regarding #8:

There is nothing in the bill about textbooks, schools, education, etc.

    Regarding #14:

You will in all likelihood never “witness” such a marriage.
When was the last time you saw any non-Jewish marriage?

(I’m not in favor of the bill. I just don’t like foolishness.)

  18. What is evil is imposing your religious beliefs upon people who do not belong to your religion or your community. How is that any different from muslim countries that force people to live by the laws of the koran even if they are christian or jew. In this country people have the right to life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness regardless of race, religion, color, or gender and if that means they have the right to marry so be it. The right of gays to marry will not do anything to lessen what your marrage means in your eyes or that of anyone elses. What will happen is that goyem will see us (because we are so identifiable) as a group who wishes to force our beliefs down everyone elses throats. If you believe this will ruin your marrage maybe you should take a long hard look at your marrage and see whats wrong with it.

  19. Hey Tired,
You better stop talking like that, I wouldn’t want to share all the above curses/threats with you!
I’m happy I’m not alone with my feelings. Perhaps we can have a lechaim together one day “with both our heads in the sand”!!
People just fail to see beyond what they are told to accept!
    Lechaim my holy brother!
