UPDATE: Vehicular Homicide Charges Filed in Fatal Lakewood Crash That Killed Woman and Child

Police say Luna-Perez showed signs of impairment at the scene

A woman and an 11-year-old girl were tragically killed in a serious motor vehicle crash late Saturday night in Lakewood, and the driver of the other vehicle has been charged in connection with their deaths.

The crash occurred shortly after 11:20 p.m. at the intersection of Cross Street and Hearthstone Drive. Responding officers from the Lakewood Township Police Department found a devastating head-on collision between a Dodge Durango and a Nissan Sentra.

According to investigators, the Durango — driven by Raul Luna-Perez, 43, of Red Bank — was traveling eastbound on Cross Street when it crossed into the westbound lane and struck the Sentra head-on.

The female driver of the Sentra was pronounced dead at the scene. Two 11-year-old girls were in the vehicle at the time. One of the girls, seated in the front passenger seat, was transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The second girl, seated in the rear, remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

Luna-Perez had two passengers in the Durango, both of whom sustained minor injuries and were released from Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Police say Luna-Perez showed signs of impairment at the scene. He was transported to the hospital, where a blood sample was obtained pursuant to a court-authorized warrant. The results are pending.

Luna-Perez has been charged with two counts of Vehicular Homicide and one count of Assault by Auto. He was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit – Vehicular Homicide Squad, Lakewood Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s CSI Unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Where were the two 11 year old girls being driven to at 11 pm? And what was their relationship to the driver?

Not really sure of relevance with that question but if you need to know driver and passenger are mother and daughter
Backseat passenger was a friend of the daughter
