Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Toms River Township Police Department Officer in Charge Peter Sundack announced on September 27, 2024, Stacy Jordan, 60, of Toms River, was charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident resulting in Serious Bodily Injury to Another Person, in connection with an incident that occurred in Toms River on September 21, 2024.
On September 21, 2024, at approximately 9:38 p.m., Officers from the Toms River Township Police Department responded to the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Mobile Lane for a report of a pedestrian having been struck by a motor vehicle. An investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad, Toms River Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, determined that a motor vehicle was traveling northbound on Massachusetts Avenue when it struck Lance Carter, 25, of Toms River, and fled the area. Mr. Carter was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he is listed in critical condition.
Through continuing investigation, law enforcement determined that Jordan was the individual who operated the subject vehicle at the time of the crash. On September 27, 2024, Jordan was taken into custody without incident in Toms River by Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and Officers from the Toms River Township Police Department. He will be transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he will remain lodged pending a detention hearing.
