Nearly 6,500 customers are without power this morning in Lakewood and Toms River following a fire at a substation.
The fire occured at a Jersey Central Power & Light facility on Silverton Avenue in Toms River around 11:15 Sunday evening.
Over 10,000 customers were without power at its peak.
JCP&L says they expect all the power to be restored by 8pm Monday evening.
Temperatures in the area are expected to reach the low 90’s this afternoon.
Free ice and water are available for customers affected by the outage at ShopRite stores in Brick on Route 70 and on Fischer Boulevard in Toms River.
Affected customers should go to the customer service desk where they will receive a voucher for ice and water.
