UPDATE: There will be non-public school busing; Storm update

Following a 5 am conference between officials and Askonim, and based in updated weather forecasts, it was decided to continue non-public school busing.

Public Schools will be closed – cancelled last night by the Lakewood School District.

Some buses are running on 2-hour delay for the morning routes, so parents call their children’s school snow number for school start details. PM busing is expected to run on schedule.

Snow totals were reduced across Ocean County, with snow accumulations of 2-5 inches expected – primarily rain with pockets of freezing rain and strong winds through the morning. The storm is expected to end by around 4 pm.

During the bus runs, the DPW will scale back its operations to give them room to run, will return throughout the day to treat roads for refreeze.

Parents – ensure children waiting at the street stay clear of the roads, as children can get sprayed by the operating plow trucks or passing traffic.

  1. What’s the point in saying there will be jay’s bus if the kids stand outside in the windy, freezing rain for half hour and the bus doesn’t even show? My son has been outside since 6:50 and came in at 7:30 dripping and freezing!!!! Rather put everyone on delay if the bus drivers won’t show up!!!!

  2. don’t expect any apology from the weathermen we’re just going to become far southern NJ… “we told you there will be rain in the south” and they’ll be talking about the snow up north until they turn blue…..I think this is like strike 3..for just this year I don’t remember them getting so many storms in one season just wrong!!!

  3. To Yaakov: the weather men get paid by large companies, such as wal mart, Walgreens and Costco to hype up the storms. This way, people frantically go shopping and the stores make money.

  4. The grocery stores are the ones laughing the hardest this morning. They pulled in quite a bit shall we say from the many in this town who thought they’d not see a sidewalk or a road for who knows how long…

  5. Can’t believe the weathermen were so far off! In Monmouth county they were predicting 8″-12″ and they got basically nothing. NY they were predicting 1′-2′ potentially higher. They got maybe 6″!

  6. The bus companies have no right to cancel based on a true story. I an very frustrated that my kids waited 20 mins and then I had to drive them. Why don’t the busses show up just because it is raining? This has happened too many times!

  7. Thank you Rabbi Krawiec of LSTA for waiting for this morning to decide unlike cancelling yesterday like the others for no reason. This weather is a joke.
