A pedestrian was seriously injured in an accident in Lakewood this evening.
The accident occurred just south of Route 70 on New Hampshire Avenue.
Police say the victim was apparently drunk when he crossed against traffic. He suffered arm and leg injuries, police said.
Lakewood First Aid and paramedics responded to the scene, and transported the patient to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Lakewood Traffic Safety division is investigating.
New Hampshire Avenue between Route 70 and Locust Street is expected to be shut for a couple of hours.

Don’t drink and walk
Would be nice if that area could belong to Toms River! Almost all pedestrian death accidents happen around there & then they smear Lakewood. It’s usually not even a Lakewood driver and oftentimes not a Lakewood pedestrian.
Yet we get the bad press.
For all the naysayers about Lakewood drivers, – I frequently drive in the surrounding towns & often mumble to myself Pray for me I’m driving in ________ (Toms River, Jackson, Howel…)
All city driving is no fun- try driving through Newark…
