UPDATE: No apparent connection between two Toms River home fires, officials say

As earlier reported, two home fires in Toms River are under investigation.

On Sunday, at approximately 9:45 PM, the Silverton Fire Company was dispatched for a reported structure fire in the Holiday City section of Toms River.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and along with Toms River Police rescued two occupants.

The occupants were flown by medivac helicopters to a New Jersey Trauma Center.

“All referrals for information should be addressed to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office as this is an ongoing investigation,” Chief Fire Inspector John Novak said.

At approximately 2:27 AM this morning, a second fire was reported on MT. Juliano in the Holiday City section of Toms River.

The Silverton Fire Company No.1 along with Pleasant Plains Fire Company and East Dover Fire Company responded. The house was well involved in fire when firefighters arrived.

The occupants of the house were home at the time of the fire and escaped without any injuries. There were no other injuries reported.

This fire is under investigation by the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention and the Toms River Police Department.

“At this time there is no connection between the two fires and the fire does not appear to be suspicious,” Novak said.

“During the primary search of the residence, two occupants, one male and one female, were discovered,” The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. “Due to the extent of their injuries, both occupants were airlifted to the Burn Center at Cooper Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey, and are presently listed in critical condition. During the suppression of the fire, three firefighters received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.”

The origin and cause of the fire are currently under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Unit, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Toms River Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and Toms River Township Bureau of Fire Prevention.
