The Lakewood Board of Education last night passed a resolution severing all ties with the Asbury Park Press in response to the offensive photo caption.
The District released the following statement this morning:
“The Board joined the Township in severing all ties with the APP via Resolution last evening.
What occurred this past Sunday is not an isolated incident – this is just one of a series of offensive acts – the only difference being this was blatant and, inadvertently, self exposed.
Targeting women, targeting heroes (nurses and medical professionals ), targeting Jews, targeting overall American culture was the alleged norm – not the exception – despicable.
As was demonstrated to Paul D’Ambrosio of the APP – the actions of the writer were on going and documented both in the APP and his personal Blog and others at the APP knew or should have known.
As was related to Paul D’Ambrosio of the APP – other APP employees /stringers were aware of the bias, the individual serving more as a critic than reporting the news, etc.
As to the reporter -we hope he gets the help he needs and we wish him no harm.
BUT – obviously – the alleged sensitivity training, etc that he received from the APP and his alleged liberal self-effacing credentials appear to have been but a mere mask for deeper related issues and a darker side.
The APP and Gannett need to do more than just saying “sorry”, if that was even what was said as our great Governor mentioned this past Monday.
Most telling is a comment a Lakewood student related, “Just another example of what we face in Lakewood. This will cool down until the next one comes.”
To our students – all 47,000 plus of them – we feel your – OUR pain – and we assure you that we will continue to promote your rights despite adversity, rights to live in a country where all are treated equal despite background, status, religion, color, and where you might live.”

What does ‘severing ties’ actually mean to the district? Cancelling newspaper subscriptions to the APP?
It means they will no longer advertise in that news paper
