A Manchester woman was injured in a serious crash Wednesday afternoon after her vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned in a wooded area, prompting a multi-agency emergency response and resulting in charges of suspected drunk driving.
At approximately 1:00 p.m., officers from the Manchester Township Police Department responded to Commonwealth Boulevard and Third Street following reports of a single-vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a utility pole severed in half, with live high-voltage wires strewn across the roadway. A red 2024 Nissan Frontier was located about 20 yards off the road, overturned on its roof in a wooded area. The vehicle had sustained heavy front-end damage.
According to the preliminary investigation, the pickup truck had been traveling westbound on Commonwealth Boulevard when the driver failed to navigate a curve. The vehicle veered off the roadway, struck several street signs, a utility pole, and multiple trees, before rolling over and coming to rest down a small embankment.
The driver, identified as 61-year-old Lisa Leith of Manchester, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Emergency crews extricated her from the overturned truck and transported her to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with assistance from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital paramedics. She is currently listed in stable condition.
Police say Ms. Leith has been charged on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Impairment is believed to be the primary factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Patrolman Jesse Hoydis and Patrolman Sage Sysol of the Manchester Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
Responders from several agencies assisted at the scene, including Manchester Township EMS, firefighters from the Ridgeway, Manchester, and Joint Base Fire Companies, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and Priced Rite Towing.
