PHOTO: The dogs rescued from the abandoned Lakewood home last night are being cared for by local shelters.
One of those shelters, is Husky House, which provided an update this morning on the condition of the rescues dogs.
“The dogs were shaved down last night and will continue to be groomed today. What came off of them must have weighed over 50lbs. The pups will visit the vet today for full work-ups. We can say that two of the younger dogs were FROLICKING in the yard with two of our volunteers last night at midnight. They were rolling around, playing and being the silly, care-free pups that they SHOULD be.”
The dogs, approximately 40 in all, were found covered in feces and dirt.
“People may have treated them poorly in the past, but they will never know anything but love and respect from this moment forward,” the shelter wrote. “A big thank you goes out to everyone that jumped in with Lorraine when we put out the SOS call. Thank you to the first few people who went into the home this afternoon before everyone else got there, truly not knowing what was ahead of them, but knowing that the dogs needed their help. Thank you to our volunteers who sprung into action to take care of our pups already at our facility. Thank you to two AMAZING groomers who dropped EVERYTHING to get to Husky House immediately to try and provide some relief to the dogs. Our selfless volunteers are some of the best people around!!!!”
Officials are investigating the incident.
