Construction for the Chasunah Initiative hall in Lakewood – first reported about last year – is underway.
The wedding hall building, being built on Oak Street, was donated by the Schron family in memory of Marta Schron, and the hall will be run by several Askonim and a committee.
As earlier reported, the hall itself will be hiring chefs, photographers, and everything else needed for the wedding, and it is expected to save at least $5,000-$7,000 on the wedding night alone.
“Our goal is to use this as a platform to launch other cost-efficient initiatives, such as for gowns, Sheitlach, Shabbos Sheva Brachos, jewelry and more. We want to bring down all costs across the board,” Askonim said. (Read the full story here.)
The hall is expected to be completed in about 12 months.
5 – 7 thousand dollars is a drop in the bucket (10 – 15% of the direct and indirect costs of marrying off a child in a very basic way). The main expense of marrying off a daughter is the cost per month that the boys are demanding. The wedding itself is a one time expense for which those who cannot afford are able to reach out for assistance.
Ok I’ll tell them not to do it
You’re right, tell them to cancel the hall.
Thank you for your assistance.
You must always see the glass half empty. This CHASUNAH initiative saves people money on exactly what it’s called. It doesn’t save on any living expenses because it’s not the living initiative. Instead of criticizing everything in the name of “being real”, maybe devote that energy into something useful. The money that will be saved will eventually help thousands of families save millions of dollars.
$7000 off the credit debt is quite helpful to me
It should be assur to marry demanding boys.
If the girls would get together, and decide not to go out until they turn 23, there would be a national shortage of girls on the market. The boys would no longer be in a position to demand things
What’s up with the latest AAA syndrome in Lakewood. Any discussion or post connected in any way to shidduchim on this site somehow gets turned into an AAA discussion. Wow
Wake up people it’s not AAA – All About Age. There are other things to discuss.
Kudos to these incredible people actually DOING something to help so many others. A lot of money will be saved
When asked whether he had the patience to wait 12 months until the new wedding hall was completed, a newly-engaged Lakewood bachur told reporters on Sunday: “Well, you’ve got to understand, I waited several months inside the freezer until I was able to begin my Shidduch search. Then, I waited several more months until I thawed out; heard back from the Shadchanim; got the final okays from the Shadchanim; found someone who didn’t think I was too yeshivish, or too modern, or too worldly; or not worldy enough; or too quiet; or too chutzpadik; or not chutzpadik enough. It has been a long wait until I finally found someone who thinks I’m not too much of anything! If I waited this long, I can wait another 12 months for a wedding hall that isn’t too expensive, or that isn’t too much of this, or not enough of that.”
The newly-engaged bachur added: “I’ve waited my enire life for Moshiach, and I haven’t lost my patience waiting for him because I know he’s definitely coming. If I waited this long for the Messiah, I think I can wait 12 months for the new wedding hall.”
“However,” he noted, “I got to find an apartment, a new suit, a wedding ring, a music band, a mesader kiddushin, a backup mesader kiddushin, a car – and the list goes on and on!”
“Oy, when is Moshiach coming already?!” he groaned.
true, but why would an article about something positive be met with negativity?
