Police have arrested the man suspected of leaving the scene of last night’s fatal accident.
During the investigation, information was obtained from witnesses regarding a suspect vehicle description and an approximate time of the incident.
Patrol units were advised of the updated information, and a short time later a green Dodge Ram van with significant damage, consistent with this crash, was located by Sgt. Joseph Rossi in a residential neighborhood off Drum Point Road.
Members of the Brick Township Police Traffic Safety Unit and Patrol Division located the vehicle owner. After examining the vehicle and interviewing the owner / driver we determined that this was the vehicle involved in the fatal hit and run pedestrian crash. The driver, Craig Menth Jr. was placed under arrest for 2C:11-5.1 Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in a Death, a second degree offense. He was also charged with 39:4-97 Careless driving, 39:4-129a Leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash and 39:4-130 Failure to Report an accident.
The pedestrian was identified as Robert Berenger, a 28-year-old male who resided in Brick. Family members who reside out of state were notified of the incident and arrest.
