As first reported on our Status last night, authrorities are investigating an alleged shooting which occurred in Lakewood.
At approximately 8:30 pm, Detective Kevin Donnelly reported that he heard approximately five gunshots in the area of South Clover Street.
As responding units where enroute to the area, Officers Christopher Dunphey and Daniel Umlauf observed a red colored vehicle traveling past them at a high rate of speed in the opposite direction. Believing that the vehicle may have been involved, they attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop, however the vehicle ignored the attempts and continued to flee at a continued high rate of speed. The pursuit was then terminated.
Officers who arrived on scene in the area South Clover Street and Cedarbridge Avenue began canvassing the area for evidence, witnesses, and injured parties. While doing so, a 23-year-old Lakewood man who wishes to remain anonymous, was located in a nearby lake. The uninjured man stated that he was attempting to seek cover when he became stuck in the mucky waters. He was subsequently pulled from the water by several officers.
Due to the hazardous conditions of the lake, the Lakewood Police Department Water Rescue Team was activated, as well as the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Drone Unit to search the area for any additional witnesses or victims.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Tyler DiStefano at 732-363-0200.
